    Hi All,

Im thinking of buying a domain name and hopefully make some magic with it. Presently Im concentrating .com domains and cant really find anything suitable that maybe available. However there are loads of .ie names available. My question is if my .ie domain became successful could the .com of that website take your business. and if so how can you protect yourself from that happening.

Ok anyone can correct me here if I am wrong If your business is only targeting
customers in Ireland the .ie will do fine if you would like to target different countries
a .com would be better as for a .com taking your business I presume the only difference
in the urls would be the extensions .ie===.com this is just plain old competition he cant steal
your business but he could outrank your site in the search engines thus stealing your customers
best way to avoid this is to be a step ahead provide a better service and build a better site with
    more links

There are certain TLD's that Google considered automatically geo-tartetted to a particular country ie .ie=IRE or .co.uk=UK etc. Sooe TLD's like .net, .org. com are not seen as a specific geo target and would have to be set as on in Web Tools to make them geo specific.

If you're targeting Ireland - then the .ie is the best option. Naturally some .coms will out rank .ie's in Ireland in search results - but that's down to the search term used and the .com's SEO ability to rank higher for that term.

It's a matter of optimising your site so that you stay ahead of the rest, regardless of their TLD
