Ok not sure what section to post this in move if in the wrong place.

I bought a Saorview box yesterday and already have the aerial. Assumed that was all I needed to get Saorview and wasnt advised either of anything else... connected the box and no channels found. Went back to a different shop and was told thats its not available in my area and I have to get a digital saorview box and dish at a cost of €350.

Anyone else come across this ???

Apologies, just came across this thread, and it looks like it is Saorsat we need to get.

Price is crazy though, bit unfair

What area are you in? There is a coverage checker on the soar view website which should show which mast if any that you should be able to connect with and it also shows the direction to point your aerial.

Is your aerial pointed in the right direction?

    already have the aerial
What sort of aerial is it? Rabbit ears are generally useless indoors.
    Which way is it pointed?
    Where are you based?

Without these answers, we can't help you much.

Sorry I am in the Kerry area and checked on the website and it said coverage is a problem in my area, Im one of the lucky 2%.

    @ the_syco : I'm using a UHF aerial

Saorsat is my only option and its quite expensive

    Summary of average SAORSAT costs:

    SAORSAT box: €80-100
Standard Installation cost including dish and LNBF: €200
    Additional LNBF for free-to-air: €35

Here is a full Saorsat kit for under €160... you will have to install yourself though..

Don't forget Kerry is kind of full of mountains too: for a lot of people the only station that will offer any hope of reception is Mullaghanish, due to its height, power output & use of the lowest frequencies in the UHF tv band.

The detail on that kit mentions a TD 54 dish. You would need something nearly twice that size for reliable all-weather reception in parts of Kerry.

Aye. My grandad is in Scartaglen, but luckily is on the "correct" side of a hill to get the saorview. Cheers for the info regarding Mullaghanish; will pass it on to the other relatives I have in Kerry should they encounter problems with saorview.
