Young cat giving trouble.

I've an 18 month old cat who's as bold as brass. I got him as a kitten but he seems to have a mind of his own. For instance he constantly attacks my 10 year old tabby and treats him with disrespect. The tabby is a gent and has never given trouble.

Other instances of him giving trouble include him constantly wanting to be inside all the time. If I throw him out at night he comes in my first storey bedroom window and wakes me up looking for food. Food is his big thing I can never fill him, he's always hungry and he'll even jump up at my dinner when I'm sitting there eating.

Is there anyway to discipline a cat and show him who's boss, I love the little fellow, but he's causing us hassle on a daily basis.

Is he neutered. My neutered Female is fine, she stays in at night and sleeps and goes out at day. Annoying in the morning when she looks for food and runs around my room. She also split tea all over my phone and broke it the other day. But yeah she's grand. Although around other cats outside, she goes ballistic. I think she's a timid cat. She's about 18 months as well. However if yours in an un- neutered male, apparently they're quite mental

Sounds familiar - I have a variety of cats here, all neutered, and the one troublemaker is the young male about the same age as yours. My theory is that he's going through a teenage stage, even his mother doesn't like him much at the moment. He struts around like he owns the place, and tries to intimidate the older cats, it's just the bravado of youth.
I just move him on when I find him annoying one of the others. I think they know the deal.... teenagers:p

Is he wormed? If not that could be why he is hungry constantly. If my cat is being an arsehat I lock him in the utility room till he calms down. I dont put my cats out at night so I cant really help there.. If you catch him in the process of trying to attack the other cat, make a loud noise to distract him, if that doesnt work, physically remove him from the situation. You could try plugging in a feliway diffuser to see. If that would help them relax around each other.

Sure is it really a problem if he wants to be inside all the time?

Agree with planetX - at his age, he's just acting like a corner boy. He won't be as sedate as your old cat for years. So long as your old cat isn't too put out with him, I don't think it's a big problem. If the older cat was really stressed by him, you'd know it.

There's no way to discipline a cat - cats don't work that way.

Thanks for the replies folks. He is neutered and has been wormed recently so I'm not really sure what has him so hungry all the time, I might get the vet to give him a once over.

I suppose like what was mentioned he is going through the difficult "teenage" stage for a cat, so I'll just have to stay patient and hope he grows out of it.

When my cat was that age, he was hungry all the time too. But he's so hyperactive I just presumed he was burning off all the energy!
He is now three years old. Doesn't eat as much now but is still hyper

Your post reminds me of my cat. He is always picking fights with my dog, he will hide behind doors and jump out at the dog and everything. They are just like two children, really, the way they go on!
