Looking to buy a gi for jui jitsu and would like to try a few on before hand.

What are some good shops to go to?

I'm living in Dublin 7 but don't mind travelling around.

Sorry if this is asked all the time.

    Thanks

    Hi,

Kyuzo gym is just up the road fom you and regularly has offers for a free Gi as part of a membership offer. Barry might also be able to sort you out if you only want the Gi.

All details including contact details on the club site.

Checked them out already but didn't really like the fit of the gi they had, and thought they were really thick.
Definitely seemed good quality so it's not off the table, would just like to see some other brands.

    Everyone keeps recommending Atama/Koral.

Atama and koral make solid and very well wearing gis, my kieko raca is my favorite, but tatami, faxia rua and grab and pull have better options for entry level gi's, my advice is to get one of them, make sure you want to train a lot of GI and then you will need at least a second GI that you can spend a bit more on.

And buy online, because it costs way less

    Cheers man.

Is there anywhere around I could try some on before buying? Just so I know the right fit.

Will probably end up buying online.
    What site do you recommend?

If you're training in a club then you could go to the club and ask to try on a few gi's from guys who are similar size and build.

This was the first Gi I bought. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BJJ-Lightweight-Gi-Tuff-Fightwear-White-A3-/200693958851?pt=UK_Sporting_Goods_Martial_Arts_Clothing_LE&var=&hash=item2eba4ac8c3 except it was in an A2. I got it for cheaper at the time but it really is a great starter Gi.

http://www.black-eagle.co.uk/basicowhitegoldweavebjjgi-p-3357.html is a good starter Gi a few of my team mates have them.

http://www.tatamifightwear.com/searchresults.asp?cat=1829 this is another good starter Gi. I own a Tatami Estilo and it is my favorite Gi, they are excellent quality.

    Enjoy!

    Great post man.

I'm looking at a tatami nova basic, will cost 93 euro after shipping. I'm just wondering though, would I be better off spending another 60-70 and getting a pretty decent gi?

I've never trained in a gi before, never owned one, but I've been training bjj/jjj for a number of years. It's not something I've just gotten into and don't know if I'll stick with it, so really unsure.

I'm hoping to train judo a couple of times a week too.
I'm guessing I'll need a different gi for that?

There are clubs, East Coast JiuJitsu, Team Ryano and I think Kyuzo that have a good link with Tatami, meaning you can order through these clubs and you can save on shipping.

Trust me, BJJ becomes a lot more enjoyable when the Gi is involved, you do realise that technique can be improved and will work on stronger guys.

I do some Judo with my coach, a good bit of our BJJ class is stand up and I usually wear my Tatami Estilo which holds up fine, you don't need to worry about your Gi not being up to a judo gi, at least I don't think so.

If you're going to go to a separate judo class your BJJ gi will do for awhile.

But if you stick at the judo you'll need a judo Gi.

First off some club just won't allow the BJJ gi to be worn in class, although they're few and far between these days..

Secondly during randori (free sparing) the judo gi your training partners use will be heavier and harder to grip than your BJJ Gi and you'll get a hard time.

If you want to compete in Judo, to advance past your green you'll need to fight then you won't be allowed wear a BJJ Gi.

Tbh if I was going to train in both I'd buy a Judo gi and use it at BJJ and Judo and not a BJJ Gi.

I don't know if I'll definitely be taking up judo, but I want to. I'm looking to train 2 times a week (wed/fri) because I already train bjj/jj/muay thai on other days. DCU seems to be my best bet, location-wise, but not sure if they take non students? Their website says they take a limited number of non-students, I've emailed them but just waiting on a reply.

I didn't know you had to compete in order to advance past certain grades. I have never really planned on competing to be honest, but may be something I'll reconsider when the time comes.

I've looked at the IJA website but are there any other clubs near D7 that train on a wed/fri? Coolmine would've been perfect but seems they only train judo on a Sunday?

I don't think there are any judo clubs training anywhere on Friday.. If you're in Coolmine you'd do well to look up Luke's Coolmine BJJ.. Luke is also a Judo blackbelt and a very successful national and international fighter and coach.

Excuse me my ignorance, and highly recommended too.. Donal Tannam is a great coach.

Does anyone know how much it would cost to train at wildgeese twice per week? I'd do 3 but I work nights, so 20:00 on a wednesday would be too late.

€80 for ten sessions paid in advance or €10 per session.
