Quick cabling question - Saorview/Sky

    Hi folks,

A quick cabling question for you... In my bedroom I have a single coax cable/wall socket. At the moment it is carrying a Saorview signal from a roof aerial. It really isn’t possible to run a second cable to this room.

I also have a feed (output) from a sky+ box running to a different bedroom (with sky eye) which I’m no longer using.

Is it possible to somehow combine the Saorview/Skybox output into a single cable into my bedroom – if so:

    What equipment do I need?
Will my Sky Eye still change the sky channel?

Thanks a million for the help.

The Sky box has an RF-in socket: if you plug an aerial feed in here, the aerial signal will be combined with the modulated output of the box & will be available wherever you distribute the Sky box output.

If you just want to combine the 2 cables in the attic, you can use a combiner/splitter like this one. Note that it has directional power pass, so the 9 VDC power from the Sky box goes where you want it. Also passes RF signals down to 5 mHz, so the magic eye remote commands will work.

    Thank you Peter.

Option 1 sounds great but I only have 3 cables at the skybox (sky, sky+ and a return feed) and I dont really want to drill to add a third (my wife would kill me :-))

Option 2 sounds good too - I noticed the combiner/splitter in the link was a 1-in/2-out, will this work in reverse or do I need to buy a 2-in/1-out?

    Appreciate the help

It's only directional wrt power. This will ensure that the power for the magic eye, from the Sky box RF2 output only goes to the magic eye & not to the aerial connected on the other leg (you could use this power for some aerial amplifiers too, in which case you would need a combiner with non-directional powerpass, but that's another story).
