€300+ exercise mat!

I was at physio today and was doing a few exercises on a very comfortable mat. Mentioned it to the physio and she said it's great but very expensive, around €160. I looked them up and see one even more expensive.

This one looks good but has a hefty price tag on it: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Airex-Hercules-Mat-Blue/dp/B008RZYN30/ref=sr_1_2?s=sports&ie=UTF8&qid=1350602378&sr=1-2

The reason I'd even consider spending so much on one would be sometimes I sleep on the floor if my back is at me so this would be very good for that I think, it's 25mm thick and quite wide and long too.

Of course, if there's a similar product for much cheaper I'm all ears. One comment mentioned something about chemical smell from it so again, if there's something similar, from a more natural material, please share :)

It'd take a serious level of retard to pay that much money for an "exercise mat".

Physio Needs have a range of Airex products... http://physioneeds.biz/ProductDetail.aspx?ref=EXE515

60ish quid up to almost 300. That one linked is probably a good compromise.

...but like that's a horrific amount to spend that would personally make me shudder. If your budget allows for it and you'll get your use out of it, can't see any reason not to.

Yeah, shocking prices for what is marketed as an exercise/yoga mat for sure. The first thing I thought of when I was using it was that it would be pretty comfortable to sleep on which it may even get more use for than actually exercising.

The deluxe one you linked to has the same dimensions and everything but doesn't mention Airex, could be worth a look considering it's almost half the price.

Have you tried any of the regular mats like you'd pick up in Argos? Is it really that much better than those?

Often with equipment like this, the extra cost (assuming it's not just a rip off) is because it is designed for much heavier use than personal equipment, or it meets some obscure standard that just isn't relevant to you. There's probably a much cheaper alternative that has all the features you want.

I have a mat I picked up in Lidl, it's a lot better than some mats I've seen but it's the thickness and softness of the airex that was appealing and just the thought of my back having decent cushioning and also warmth for sleeping on the floor.

I used to work in a shop that sold these mats

Unfortunately the shop has now closed but you can get them online. They are the most comfy and cushioned mats I ever used. You can get them for €50. They would be fine for sleeping on if you sleep on your back but might be a bit narrow if your tossing and turning.
