    Bought an x trail a couple of months ago second hand.....a 2005 dci 2.2 model... its putting out a lot of black smoke on boost from the turbo also there is some oil on the exterior of the engine below the intercooler.....has anybody got any solution to this problem or an insight to what is not working as it should be.......gonna be bringing it to a mechanic shortly for a professional opinion but would like a little bit of info before i do so thanks...........

    Well hows things......there is 97000 miles on it.....with a history up to 40000...anything done in the service book is just standard stuff.....oil, filters ect.....i dont know too much about it after that.....i got it serviced the day after i bought it so at the minute its running ok bar the black smoke.....what problems am i gonna face.???

    on the face of it, it looks like you've got an intake leak - either a split / damaged hose or intercooler. Has the increase in smoke been accompanied by a decrease in power and an increase in noise under throttle?

    I hope you did your research when buying that yoke because they have a well won reputation for eating turbos and intercoolers. They are not a reliable car and not a recommended buy.

    For new parts you could be looking at substantial bills.

    The service interval on those cars is ridiculously high, with the result the critical components get stresses as the oil degrades.

    Unfortunately most of what he says is correct though. A few guys here at work had them and they broke their hearts.
