well lads the setter is coming on grand. (i think so anyway). she was locked on a set today and i was happy to watch her stalk in when a dog walker came through the ditch, his dog started barking at my dog, (quite close to her) she never flinched and stayed in the set even when your man came over to take away his dog. . . was happy out.

anyway, my question is, were coming across allot of snipe, but she is bumping 90% of them, she sometimes sets where the snipe has been but not always, she has set one or two snipe.

i have never shot a snipe and i have not shot over this dog yet. (waiting for the pheasants) should i try steady her to the snipe or let it come naturally? thanks.

Personally I would ignore snipe as they are not a target species for me. I'd be tripping over them in a few weeks & I dont want the dog stopping every 2 mins, me firing & the pheasants taking off ahead of me before I ever see them.

However if she finds & holds on them then she'll be as steady as you need on anything.

All depends what your after Dicky.
From the vids & the sounds of it all progress is going well & once you start shooting pheasnrs she'll be ignoring 100% of snipe as she'll realize what ye are after. If you start dropping a few snipe she should get the idea

thanks for the reply, to be honest i'm confident enough to be shooting at snipe. i've had a pop or two at them in the past with the springers but lets's just say they're not under any threat when i'm around. i want to shoot pheasants over her and if she puts up any woodcock then them too.
