Apologies if this has been asked elsewhere already. I've had a read of other thread and cannot locate a straight answer (I dont have time to read more threads).

Is it possible to buy a Saorview box which includes -

    - Freesat (BBC, ITV, CNN, etc)
    - PVR
    - Dual Tuner

    for €180 (or less)?

I'm in rented accommodation and that is the price limit agreed with the landlord for a saorview box. I want to buy one off-the-shelf rather than over the web.

    Any suggestions guys?
    Thanks!

    No such thing really

I'd say this'll be the closest you'll get for the price range.

It's not a pvr (no hdd built in) but an external usb drive can be connected.

It's neither Saorview nor Freesat compatible either. Though it will receive channels from both.

€180 just about gets a real PVR for Satellite only.

There are no real PVRs for Terrestrial and Satellite at ANY price 100% compatible.

A true PVR for Saorview and Freesat needs four tuners and MHEG5.

    Which box is that Watty?

I think he's saying one doesn't exist with all that functionality. The best thing you can get as a PVR which will access both Soarview/Freeview at the moment is the Humax HDR-FOX T2 500GB Freeview.

OP someone on another thread said they purchased this which is PVR ready and works with Soarview/Freeview HD. I would take that to mean if you check out the other PVR HD machines by bush on argos they will also work.

The Humax HDR Fox T2 or the otehr one you linked to will only work for people along the border of Northern Ireland. The majority of the country are not in a position geographically to receive overspill from northern Ireland and require a combo box for both using satellite and terrestrial feeds.

What Watty is pointing out is that is doesnt have 4 tuners for true recording facilities. 2 Combo boxes will actually achieve this for less than €200! ie 4 tuners 2 DVb-T and 2 DVB-S2.

Amiko are an option too whilst having 2 satellite tuners they only having one terrestrial tuner, and may be a little more complicated to use than a non linux combo.

Do you happen to know if we will see one soon or indeed ever? Hopefully one with a composite EPG if that's the correct term?

Thanks for the feedback but I'm still confused guys??

What would be the best option for c.€180-€200?

Do a search on www.amazon.co.uk. You will get a myriad of results. Reading the specs and reviews will give you a very good insight as to whats available.

Somewhere between extremely slim and none. Freesat is marketed at the UK only and won't approve a receiver that is aimed at viewers outside of it. Indeed there are no Freesat/Freeview combo set-top-boxes, PVR or otherwise that are certified by both. The best hope is a TV with built in DVB-T2 and DVB-S2 tuners that have the latter certified for Freesat and the former certified for Saorview, as part of a TV sold for Pan-European markets with different certification in different countries where required/desirable - even then it won't function as a full-blown PVR unless as Watty points out it contains four tuners. No current model does. Even then the EPGs of each service cannot be combined (at least without an unofficial hack) first due to Freesat licencing and secondly due to overlapping EPG numbers between Freesat and Saorview in the 200s range.

Your best hope is to have reception in an area where both Freeview and Saorview are available since both these platforms use a common transmission platform along with a common method of delivering EPG data & series linking, and with the correct receiver the ability to rearrange channel numbers to your own preference.

Wait in the hope that someone releases a proper box ?

You could get two separate boxes for that money and record on one while watching the other. You could just about get two Ariva 150's.

There are boxes out there that will allow you to record a different channel on the same transponder (meh) or even on the same band but not dual tuner by a long shot.

At this stage you'd be an early adopter so if buying now make sure it's from a brand with support that issues regular firmware updates.

Saorsat is an option if you can find a dual tuner Freesat box that supports disecq (does such a thing exist ?). You won't get Irish EPG , you won't get TV3/3e (but you have ITV/UTV so ... )
This will require another LNB (€35) and disecq switch (€10) and bracket and connectors and the load of a sat finder and cable and a cable monkey to go up the ladder

A Humax Foxsat HDR is dual tuner PVR for satellite and has Disecq support via a hidden menu. One tuner could be used for 28.2E and one for 9E, but as it's designed for Freesat, you will have to use it in non-Freesat mode which means you won't get a 7 day EPG for UK or Irish channels and as each tuner is for a different satellite, not too sure what options are there when recording but it will do some of what you want, but via satellite so no TV 3 or 3E.

You need 2 x Diseqc switches or a multiswitch for a PVR.

Was thinking of trying one of these after DTT switchover, anybody know what feature/s might be incompatible with Saorview recording?
