Can't get a job...

I'm a 22 year old male and Iv'e been looking for a job for about 3 months now, my efforts have not been consistent but I have still applied for many jobs and have done 5 interviews. I live in Dublin, I check online and go into town with CVs. Im faily sure I've covered all the main places in town. I'm starting to lose hope and think there is just something wrong with me because other people I know have gotten jobs rather easily.

I have retail experience and some bar experience (although the dates have been altered to make it longer), but still get nothing. Iv'e registered with a job centre and they haven't done anything for me yet.

I just can't seem to get past the interview stage, I assume I'm lacking something personality or appearance wise. Everytime I go in someplace I never get past the "we're not hiring" or "I'll put it on file" barrier. Has any one else had trouble in finding work? It enrages me to hear of one of my friends or someone they know getting a job "no problem".

Suit, introduce yourself in a friendly and genuine way. Make sure your cover letter is tailored to the retailer and that you are state your availability.

Pleanty of retail jobs out there I had four offers over the last couple of weeks.

Think outside the box - don't just go for Argos, Tesco and alike.

I can relate. Seeing others getting part-time or full-time work left right and centre made me feel like a failure. I was since roughly 2 years applying for work (mostly after the exams, during the summer and Christmas time) whenever something new on the fas jobs subscription pops up, jobs.ie, and also around town. But it was mostly with a disheartened demeanour. I was getting sick of applying to jobs through websites etc. that were always filled. I felt that I had really exhausted my options with looking for a job.
I sent I dunno how many emails, ringing them and going to so many businesses handing in cvs to them.

But I got a job recently and it has really helped boost my self-esteem. TBH I probably wouldn't have gotten it only that I can work during the week after college as I commute most days of the week as well as weekends, and the fact it's opening up for business soon so I guess I was in the right place at the right time.

If you're in college or something similar talk about your situation to the career guidance councillor. Could you do volunteer work in the meantime? It could prove to employers that you are showing the initiative to work. Get someone to look at your cv and how you act and talk in an interview.

Hope this helps any bit at all.
