    Lads what is the deal?

I know the lad is not the most disciplined (apparently), but what is going on with him?

Winning Prizefighter should have been the launchpad he needed but he has disappeared off the radar.

He was in the US for a while I heard, his nationality and natural talent is a hinderance (cannot fight for domestic, British or European titles so he can't bring a belt to the table) and he is simply too risky to take on as a mandatory.

So where does he go from here? Does anyone even know if he is an active trainer in between fights?

Its such a shame as he does possess excellent skills

a very good opponent for fury or price i would think even with their height and weight advantages

i'd be very surprised if either took this fight, Perez is all wrong for Fury and doesn't bring anything to the table for either Price or Fury other than being very high risk for small reward.

    1) that Eddie Hearn has finally signed him

    2) that he is fighting on the undercard of Froch v Mack

Perez is fighting Ruslan Chagaev on December 1st. Now thats an interesting fight. Its a big test for Perez and a big jump in class.

I just hope it doesnt fall through.

Huge step up for Mike, this is his chance to prove if he's world class or not!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,966 ✭✭✭Syferus

If he's world class he should walk through Chagaev, there really is only a sum total of two world class heavyweight fighters.

I think rust and preparation are the things that could beat Perez, in an ideal world he should have more than enough for Chagaev.

Id hate to see him blow his chance because of poor preparation and being rusty. I believe he is good enough to beat Chagaev but theres no way he would walk through him.
I dont think its a case of him being world class or not, he definitely has the potential to be but he needs to be built up properly to that level. I don't think he has been. Perez making bits out of journey men is one thing but Id have liked to see him have one or two warm up fights before this especially as he has been so inactive.

Solis is seen as a bit of a reject at elite level when in theory he is a level of 2 above Perez. Perez has potential to be in some exciting fights at fringe level if he is motivated though

thats true, Solis was a good few levels ahead of Perez when they were amateurs I believe

Perez didn't cut it at Senior level in the amateurs.

Is this fight really going ahead against Chagaev?

Saw Perez fighting twice in Limericks UL arena, was in front row and ill tell you something,he was with SOME bird;i can see why he finds it hard to motivate himself inside the ring.

HE COULD GO FOR PRIZEFIGHTER AGAIN HARRISON AND ROGAN ALSO IN IT AGAIN BE HANDY MONEY FOR PEREZ

Prize fighter would be right up his street, but been a while since he has been in action. Coming into that format on the back of a long break would be tough going.

Having said that it would get him in the public eye again and could set up some domestic fights.

I have a feeling tho that he has no ambition, boxing was more a thing to get him settled here, imo of course. would love to see him make a huge effort in getting his boxing career lite, he is only 27 and with 2/3 years of improving and activity in the ring could see him with a bright future and earning potential.

i've heard whispers that he didn't even renew his boxing licence

Alot of factors pointing towards him being a lazy sod. You don't hear a single word from him either, his promoter gets dogs abuse too, then we hear that everyone is ducking him.

Its probably a combination of all 3 factors to be honest.

He doesn't even seem bothered about putting himself out there, keeping his name in the news with a twitter account or the like, sounds trivial but its what boxers do to generate interest.

Don't think prizefighter wud be anything he shud even think about the last one didn't help him in any way. I do think he's a good boxer but he does himself no favors by the stories I've heard, probably the reason he hasn't been fighting. Hopefully he gets the hunger back soon before it's to late

Ya that's his old doll some lasher alright I was der myself, Know her through a friend she's a sound bird aswell by all accounts.

Der some footage on sherdog boxing few days ago of him sparring some Russian teenager, didn't give me great confidence in him though wen amaturs are beating him up a bit and he looked cockier than David haye himself..for what reason I don't know cause he looked slow overweight and shocking defence very sloppy!!!!

Whats the odds of this guy even fighting this year??Its already nearly March and he already had 2 fights cancelled so far! Seems such a shame that this is happening to a guy with such great potential. Perez is 26 now, this is his prime he needs to fight NOW or soon it will be too late. Even Fraudley Harrison would do to get him started.
