Pipe knocking

Pipe to downstairs radiator runs down a supporting brick internal wall that was blobbed with plasterboard.

Three zones, up down water, all diverge from hotpress.

One pipe is knocking badly when it heats - it's in the front room as well.

Any thoughts on what could be done without ripping the place apart?

your rad valves could be on the wrong way.there are ones you can get where it doesnt matter where the flow or return goes in but maybe not in this case

Should I try to reduce flow through this rad or increase it?

swithch your valves around,,,,this means draining the system and refilling when done

That is only with some older type TRV's and the radiator just would not heat if that was the case. It would not make noise.

It is more like an unsecured pipe that is expanding when heated and the only solution is getting to the pipe to secure it properly, unless there are better suggestions.
