I sold some bull weanlings recently circa 310 kgs which made on average 750, people have said since that I should creep feed to get better weights.

Question what is the conversion rate of a ccalf that eats say 6 bags of weanling meal at €10 per bag total cost of meal €60 what additional weight would the meal put on the calf

Saw an advetisement, in the IFJ, few weeks back, for some weanling crunch or other.
Suggested in the add, that for each 6kg of concentrate consumed, the average weanling would put on 1kg weight.
Now using your cost of concentrate of €10 a bag which is expensive, 6kgs of meal wouldf cost €2.40.
In your case you got on average €2.42 per kg for the animals you sold.

    Go figure:confused:

This is our first year creeping a few calves because we normally hold them the winter. They are getting about 3kg a day for the last month and it has made a serious difference to them. There is a awful shine off their coat and they are a lot fancier looking for getting it. That in its own right is worth a few euro along with the extra kilos they put on.

Even before the SWS came in I used to let calves have access to krunch for around a month before sale, definitely brings a shine to their coats more than anything else....but I also think a key factor when you get to this time of the year is how naturally milky weanlings mothers are,lot of SH breeding in my stock so milk no prob....would always find heaviest calves came from milkiest cows.
