yes for €39, you'll get the best oil and oil filter on the market. most engine failures are down to poor quality oil or defective oil filters. get yourself a cheap air filter but get the best oil and oil filter you can.

Not due a service for another 6,000 or 7 months. And I only ever use good oil when topping up. And know that it has always been serviced using good oil, and Bosch filters.

Just saw it, but didn't want to throw it into bargain alerts.

Edit: but I'd question whether or not they'd be using a decent brand of oil at that price.

    Fine print:
Standard 10W40 oil provided, other oils will incur a surcharge. Max. 0.5 litre of engine oil included.

In other words, they'll top up the oil (potentially the wrong oil) and washer fluid and find a million things wrong. Feck that.

That's what I saw initially. That's for the "Inspection Service". The one for €39, where they say they change the oil & filter doesn't specify what grade/ brand of oil is used.

But I'd disagree with them finding a million things wrong. It's be at lest eleventysix million things wrong.

Very misleading ad. Or, just bad grammar which could lead them before Judge Judy ;)

If it says "€39 for an interim service plus oil and filter change". A customer may expect more than a top up of " Max. 0.5 litre" of oil

Meanwhile, those opting for the interim service will have old oil and residual gunk flushed-out and replaced with clean oil to nestle in alongside a sparkly replacement filter. The lights, horn and wiper blades will be tested, before motors have their washer, power steering, brake and clutch fluids topped-up, as well as a fill of coolant and antifreeze.

    Mean while:

    Advance pitstop.

    enough said.

I didn't realise there were 2 different prices when I got the email. I thought it was a great deal to get a (half-arsed) service done on an old banger for a tenner!

Oh I agree alright. Hence my concern that the correct grade of engine oil would be used. And they don't do much to dispel that fear in the ad either.

Gah, aren't people wise to these groupons yet.

Whenever shops sell them their always overloaded for a period of time because the voucher is only valid for so many months.

Hence your going to have a mechanic or some young lad blasting through 'services'

Advance Pitstop as well .... I'd sooner trust my mum armed with a haynes manual.

The garage would be lucky to see €20 of that money.

How the hell do they change the filter and only stick a max 0.5 litres of additional oil in, do they have some way of magically turning off gravity to retain the existing oil?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,279 ✭✭✭PaulKK

Lads the €39 one is a complete oil and filter change. The €10 one is the top up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 104 ✭✭hohojojo

they say in the deal that if your car takes different oil you'll be charged a surcharge no one seems to have read the conditions properly so far, really opinions should be kept to yourself about the quality and laziness of peoples work when to people saying it can't even read the add properly. i am not saying to go for the deal as i do this type of stuff myself but for people that can't it an alright deal.

    +5 million to this.

People should read the whole ad before shooting their mouth off.

Having said that, the ad isn`t a very good one!

Doing an oil change with advance pitstop is better than not doing one at all, alot of people don`t bother at all, drive their car for years without doing it.

No mechanically minded person would go for that, it's for the lazy and clueless people.

€9.99 for doing 5 minutes max of check which you are meant to know how to do most of them for a driving test.
a tener down the drain if you ask me.

...reminds me of Homer and the coupon for the "Free Wheel Balancing" in the Simpons..

No douibt they'd replace unnecessary maintenance items if they got half a chance.

The amount of people that do one is mind boggling!

Like when I failed on 2 visuals...I was told by someone who is a pre-NCT advocator "oh but you had to go back to the NCT"...wtf?? Its the same as going for as going for a retest (if you need one at all)...which was free, anyway worst case scenario you are out €25 on the retest

in fairness it's not a 5 min check. taking all 4 wheels of to check the brakes would take longer than that.
did you have to jack up your car and check all the suspension, exhaust, steering, links, hoses and pipes etc for your driving test???.

even just to get a car checked over properly without an oil change is nearly worth 39euro.

the correct grade of oil is always used, and not just cheap oil, it's valvoline, the offer is for 10w40, if your car takes 5w30, 5w40, 0w30 or what ever grade then thats the grade you will get. fully synthetics incurr a surcharge usually works out around 15euro on average for the oil fill.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,401 ✭✭✭Nonoperational

Typical response to a promotional offer that's offered on here. €39 for an oil and filter is great value, and if fully synthetic costs a bit more it's still a god deal. But sur don't let that get in the way of unfounded misinformed criticism of it for the sake of it...

But do you have all the individual specs of 10w40, 5w30 etc etc in stock?

I.e, not every car that requires 5w30, for example, requires the same 5w30. There are several different specs.

Also, these offers are always for 10w40 because its the cheapest grade of oil, despite the fact that VERY few modern cars require 10w40.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 33 YellowVanMan

we have to specs of 5w30, anything that needs different spec will be got from any of the local motor factors(at an extra cost).

i'm just speeking on behalf of our branch, we understand the importance of the correct grade and spec, we refer to auto data and vivid for all specs on all cars.
