Can a back stove be installed on an existing fireplace

    Hi,
We have an open fireplace in an house about 10 years old, I was considering looking into a stove but my wife is not taken on the look of them.
Is it possible to fit a back boiler into the existing fireplace to heat up the rads and water and if so what are the pros and cons as opposed to a stove and are the saving significant as opposed to oil heating.
heating the house cost around €1000 last winter, my guess is that it could be much lower with wood and coal mix, any suggestions please and if any one has any idea of prices on fitting such system if it is possible.
    Many thanks
