I have a toshiba satellite pro l40 and need a recovery disc, laptop belongs to my niece who forgot the password, trouble is that someone tried to restore it using a dell disc.
it runs on vista home basic.
if anyone has a disc i could borrow or tell me where to get one it would be much appreciated.
    thanks.
please do not suggest anything that could land boards in trouble regarding copyrite laws, not looking for pirated software etc...
i am in limerick city many thanks

If you don't find some gentle soul with the same model, get on to Tosh's technical support (Ireland is covered by their UK division).

Having said that, if you have a OEM Vista Home Basic installation disk (not recovery, can be Dell or any other OEM) you can reinstall Vista, the license key (COA sticker) will work.

If you just want to clear a Windows user password, that's easily done with the Offline NT Password & Registry Editor.

not with toshiba, they have a system that only allows user to use their products,a bit like xbox have for replacement parts, thats why they can charge around 50 quid for recovery cd.

I have reinstalled the OS on quite a lot of Toshiba Laptops. Always using one of my "own" OEM disks. Customized Dell source usually, slip streamed with the latest service pack and security patches... I update them 3 or 4 times a year, saves me a lot of work.
