I've bent my ring

While out on a spin today I somehow managed to bend a section of my middle front ring, I think it happened when I changed gear under heavy strain, anyway can I fix this just by bending or hammering it back into shape? Should I leave it on the bike while attempting to straighten it? Am I in more trouble than I think and need to replace the ring?

    Thanks for any advice.

I had the same problem, I dismantled my chainring and straightened it myself, if you try to straighten it in situ you could bend the other rings.

It's possible and certainly worth a try. Defo take it off. I bent my spider trying to this before and ended up having to get a whole new crankset.

Ok got it sorted, took the ring off (which wasn't easy) and got it as straight as I could, when I put all the rings back on the bike it was still not right but one bang with the hammer via a block of wood and it was perfect, I now can't see where the damage was. Happy out.

I see the dubs are looking for a decent mechanic in the Pale, maybe there's a business oppurtunity there to take some handy cash of them?
