Is there any game/games people would recommend for a 7 year old? He has been watching hours of mount and blade gameplay vids on youtube but it looks like it could be too much for him to handle.
Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

I like mount and blade but it would be a bit much for a seven year-old I think.

Personally I'd give minecraft a go, not an rpg I know. Failing that perhaps some of the Lego games, the first Lego batman was very good and my lad enjoyed it.

There's a Lotr one out now as well if you where specifically looking for a more RPG themed one, not released yet though 23 nov.

Is it just computer games? I'm assuming PC here, though lego games are available on all formats.

You could try some of the mmorgs they'd be possibly too young for many of the elements, but most are free to play now, so no loss if they don't work.

Thanks for that. All the Lego games have been completed I'm afraid. He has used the Wii, PS3 and the DS so I would like to get him a little more used to the PC. Like all kids, he catches on pretty quick so if there wasn't a lot of reading involved I'd say he could get the hang of mount and blade pretty quick.Computer and motor skills are way head of his reading skills :D
Also, I like the look of mount and blade too. I am really thinking of a few PC games for Xmas that are a little technical but not too hard to grasp. We don't have a PC yet but I have him all excited about helping me build one before Xmas so also graphics card is a consideration. Any Idea how Intel's on boards graphics would handle mount and blade seeing as it is not new?

Personally I've always found on-board cards to be poor when it comes to running games.

Fable 1 & may be an option and are on xbox, as well as torchlight and at that age mine were playing black and white, the rts warcraft 3, which you should be able to get fairly easily enough and won't need current top rated tech.

Don't underestimate your children, they're full of surprises.

Bastion is well worth a look. A little light on the RPG mechanics, but very pretty, it's all narrated so almost no reading involved, and it's fairly kid friendly.

It might be no harm looking for the Baldur's Gate series or Planescape: Torment (You should be able to pick them up on GOG.com for very little). They're pretty much top of the pile of all time classics. Not terrifically complicated, and while there's plenty of in-game reading, I'll be honest, it's one of the things that spurred me on to read more as a hobby when I was much younger.

Pokémon games and minecraft are my little sisters favorites :)
