    Hi guys,

Have been asked to do a job and could be good to have an onsite printer so printing snaps there and then.

The job is ongoing so not just buying it for a 1 off.

Can you give me some recommendations of a decent quality printer that would help me out?

Really not sure where to look for this as I have never had the need to print off my own snaps, just go to the local camera shop normally!

    Cheers,

    P

I have a Fuji ASK-300 printer. It's a dye sub and prints from 6x4 up to 8x6 and takes 12 seconds for the 6x4 and 18 seconds for the 8x6 so it's plenty fast but not as fast as the two others below. It also has one of the lowest cost per prints.

It's a very new printer and it's one of the cheapest dye subs in the market at the moment but because it's so new there aren't many reviews of it around. I had a demo of it at Photovision and bought it after that.

I was also looking at the Mitsubishi cp-70dw which prints faster (8.4 seconds for a 6x4) and has the option to go up to 9x6 but was €200 dearer and the cost per print is a tiny bit higher (in reality it makes no difference).

There is also the DNP DS40 which is similar to the Mitsubishi but is even dearer again but has the cheapest cost per print available.

And there is also the HiTi P510 but they are hard to find in Ireland so the three above would probably be the most popular as the media for those three is widely available in Ireland but the HiTi doesn't seem to have any distributor in Ireland so that is something to bear in mind.

oshead uses the Mitsubishi above if you wanted to send him a PM and see what he thinks of it.

You could also rent one for the first event and see how you get on as these things aren't cheap and if it goes well then buy one or double up with someone that already has a printer/experience for the first event and again make a decision after that.

have a chat with DL Kirkpatrick (www.dlkphoto.co.uk) in Belfast - those guys seem to be the cheapest around for new stuff.

or Paddy Barker (www.barkerphotographic.ie) in Cork - really knows his stuff and will give you a good deal

plenty of other places to purchase - but non will compare when it comes to actually chatting with the guys mentioned above.

Thanks for your replies guys. what if I was to rent one out at first to try out, are they pretty easy to use and what sort of costs are there for renting can you tell me? cheers

They are easy to use, it's the workflow thats the problem :)

Give the two mentioned above in Paddy's post a call to see if they rent them otherwise try and hook up with someone that already has one as you are looking at >€1K investment just for the printer not to mention media etc.

Have hired the Fuji ASK-300 printer from Sheldon. Great printer and very good quality of prints. Very low cost per print. We were using the 7 x 5 prints.
