Philly to Nashville and Back - Roadtrip Suggestions needed!

    Hi Everyone,

2 of us are doing a roadtrip from Philly to Nashville and back. We have 8 days so we're thinking 3 days to get there (so driving just 4 hours or so stopping in a different place each night - nothing to stressful), 2 days or so there and then 3 days back a different route.

We're looking for suggestions on interesting routes to take - it's a relatively short trip so we should have plenty of time each day to see something. Looking for some random experiences, some crazy nights and hidden gems.

If anyone knows the general area any suggestions are welcome,

    Cheers!

The Appalachian Mountains of Virginia/West Virginia, make the Interstate a bit more interesting on the way there, should be able to hit them as part of your route down or on the way back. Also check out the New Gorge River Bridge too if you're passing nearby it's worth looking at and driving over it is pretty cool.

The Great Smoky mountains are ok, with one or two nice drives in the park, although really not too much to drive through to be honest more of a hiking park.

I did Mammoth Cave in Kentucky on the way down, it's the largest underground cave system in the world and there are all different kinds of tours though it depending on what you're interested in. It's only 2 hrs or so outside of Nashville and it's really interesting, definitely worth a look.

If you're into American History there are some historical locations around there too that might be interesting.

Yeah definitely interested in historic sights and we'll try to get some in without a doubt.

In terms of towns or cities to stay in each night are there any you'd recommend?

Like i said we'll take 2/3 nights to drive down and the same back another route - give ourselves plenty of time to relax and explore. As well as get drunk in the evenings obviously.
