changing a van to a people carrier

    Hi Folks
I am planning and buying a second hand VW transporter LWB to do a few odd jobs as previously worked as a carpernter. I have a few kids in tow now and teh better half. can I buy a transporter and put windows in teh back and double back seats bolted to the frame allowing me to do the odd job ie fit a 8x4 sheet of ply on edge up the side? reason being I have had a few offers of jobs recently but was not able to take up as dont have a van anymore just a Opel astra (wont fit many 8x4 in her!)

What are the steps about changing a vw transporter from Commercial to private? Higher tax and insurance? also having to visit the VRT office for the change of use to be sorted? Or should I try and buy a carravelle that has teh seats already in teh back along with side windows? Any suggestions most welcome! also we will be getting rid of our jammer if we do convert a van as we cant afford 2 vehicles on the road.

    Cheers

Buy a Caravelle. The legwork in turning a commercial vehicle into a private one, coupled with adding seats, getting it checked by an engineer etc. would be financially ill advised.

On that note, if it's just 8*4 ply you want to move, why not get a tow bar + trailer? Seems like it would solve your problem. Or just get the ply delivered to the site you're working on? No need to get a whole vehicle to do the odd job every now and again.

If, however, you're getting it for the kids etc. I can see why you would want a people carrier.
