    Hey everyone,

I'm a UL student, and I'm going on Erasmus next year. We have to fill up the forms by the end of the month, and I haven't a clue of where I'd like to go!
The UK is an option, seems as I'm studying English and Media, but it seems very close to home to be an experience.
Suny Paltz in New York is another option.
Has anyone here been on Erasmus, and if so, where did you go and did you enjoy it?

A friend of mine who was studying at the Sociology Department went at Ljubljana Slovenia. She had great time there. The weather was an issue because she went there at September and stayed until February so the cold was a lot, but as she said it was a great experience. She travelled a lot, at countries around Slovenia. Austria, Croatia, Serbia, Hungary to name a few. He chose Ljubljana instead of Liege because it was cheaper at Slovenia. I suggest you not to go to UK, if you stay at Ireland. The two countries are too close. There is no difference. I forgot to mention that a cheap place then (a year ago) was Lisbon, Portugal but she chose Slovenia. I suggest you to go to a mediterranean country especially if you're gonna do the Erasmus at February or later. Try to find a country which is cheap generally and a university which has all the lessons in english (some universities don't have lessons in english). Last but not least a country to make tours. You're gonna meet some amazing people at Erasmus. :D

I spent my erasmus year in Leipzig, Germany, which was great. The town is rather cheap if you're a student, plus I think they finally finished renovating the college which should be all nice and new. It's quite north east so you would get really cold winter but you get 2 months holliday (where you can either work or travel) in february and march, which i thought was a bit strange but you just have to make the most of it. (also you're really close to berlin and prague which is always good when you want to go away for the week-end)

Remember Erasmus and international exchange are two different things Erasmus is studying within europe and you are also liable for a grant, international exchange is outside europe like suny in upstate new york with no grant! As far as erasmus goes I think you can go to charles university in prague I love that city but not too sure about the erasmus experience. My friend went to malta and had the time of his life and loads of UL students go there as well, I have a couple of friends in copenhagen at the moment they love it but the standard of living is very high! germany is a great spot for it too, the UK will be a completely different experience for college aswell though!

The UK is so close to home, I think you'd be better off seeing and living in a really different culture if you're going to go away for a year. I did a year between Lyon and Paris, really enjoyed it but Paris would be really expensive if you're a student (I was on work placement so had some income). Lyon is a gorgeous city, close enough to Switzerland and the Alps for skiing and 2 hours from Paris on the train for a weekend away.

I know someone who did your course and she went to Lithuania and Malta, 6 months in each. Lithuania seemed pretty tough, but Malta is English-speaking so it could be easy enough to settle in there.

Have you considered the Netherlands. Most their universities are English speaking plus alcohol and cigarettes are really cheap. But most importantly it's a brilliant country which nearly everyone has perfect English
