Minimum Marathon Training

With two weeks to go today the nerves of my first marathonare well and truly kicking in.

My training has been going well all things considered. Ihave finished my midweek runs of 8-10miles with plenty left in the tank and onshort runs I'm running 5k's quicker than my race PB's.
All told however I'm nervous I haven’t done enough? I'vedecided to drop a projected finishing time and just enjoy the experience of thefirst marathon with the sole aim of finishing weather running, walking orcrawling. However s the days decrease to the start the nerves (as well as thepeople who are saying I'm mad for running 26.2 miles and etc etc) increase.

Which leads me to my how long is a piece of string question- what’s the minimum amount of training needed to complete a marathon?

The minimum amount is no training at all. Plenty of people have walked a marathon without any preparation whatsoever.

I'm guessing I'm going to regret this, but how long has your longest run been?

My longest non stop run without water/gels etc has been 14 miles. My longest run has been closer to twenty but walked for a minute or two taking on water/gels etc.

I ran in last years having done no training at all. The longest I'd done was the ten mile frank duffy in August.
I hardly ran after that either. i was on course for about 3hr30 at the half way mark allowing for my miles to slow down by a minute. Unfortunately my legs went at 14 miles and I hobbled the rest of the way.
The feeling though when you finish just gets rid of all that pain!

I might have got a crap time (4hr 30) and was unable to climb stairs the next day, but if i had to do it tomorrow I'd give it a go no problem! The thing is when you finish you don't really care how you feel!
Op give it a go and swear to yourself that you'll train next year!:)

Well then theres even more of a reason too! I was in your position last year up until I collected my race pack in the RDS.
For the week before that it was will I/won't I?
Decided to run it after absorbing some of the atmosphere out in the RDS.
    You've nothing to lose!

    Just look forward to this:

Oh definetly going to attempt it. No worry about that! Just dont want to feel like a twat and pull out by the time we hit the Heuston station area!

The momentum on the day will carry you most of the way!
Anyhow if you pull out while running it, you're still going to be experiencing the side effects the next day! And you'll feel like a complete twat!

If at any time you feel like crap, think of the chap who ran it last year in a mankini! No amount of body glide would have stopped that chaffing!
