Hi, Looking at hiring a Ford Taurus in the USA next year for 3 adults and 2 kids.
Does anybody know if this is the same size as a Mondeo or Astra (or bigger then both)??
I've looked at a coupleof reviews but can't tell.
Don't want to hire and find it's too tight for 5 for a holiday.
If anybody has any other 5 person car recommendations for a hire car for the USA I'd appreciate it.

It's closer in size to a Mondeo.

The current model (from 2007 onwards) saloon:

    Length: 5126mm
    Width: 1892mm
    Heigth: 1562mm
    Wheelbase: 2868mm

That's way more than mondeo not even mentioning astra

It's an americanised mondeo, meaning it's huge.

Depends on the year. The newer models are bigger than the mondeo alright but the older models 98-03 are slightly smaller. I nearly bought a 99 taurus in the states a few years ago.
New Fords in the states have a fantastic reliabilty record but the older ones (pre 2005) have a foul record, be careful

Its the next size up from a mondeo.
3 adults and 2 kids will still be a bit of a squash, its bigger but it still only has the same number of seats. With 4 adults and one kiddy seat it was ok, but i wouldnt like to be in it all day.
Hire a people carrier (or mini van to the yanks)
    Mine used to take 11.5sec 0-60mph with a 3.7L v6:eek:

Since when do US hire companies give out 13 year old cars? :)

Would you not be better off with the likes of a Chrysler Voyager OP?

Dude, you need glasses, or a new measuring tape:p

The taurus has always been bigger than the mondeo, they are in different size catagories!

Voyager another 120+ euro on top of the Taurus, otherwise I'd be on it.

It's not gonna be unmanageable in the Taurus, it's a full sized saloon. If you intend doing lots of driving though I would spend the extra moolah. ;)

This is the current model Taurus, it is larger than a Mondeo as the new Mondeo called Fusion will be sold in the US below the Taurus:
