Surprised there's no thread on this - the final series of the superb Danish crime drama Forbrydelsen.

I'll be watching the first 3 episodes tonight, and the forth will be available tomorrow. 10 part series.

That can't be the real DVD cover, surely? There's a thread on the previous two here. Spoilers for the uninitiated.

I think it's an official dvd cover alright.

It's available for pre-order on amazon with a release date of December 17th.

That's pretty fast. DVDs (incl. the previous ones) seem a little pricey.

The new/final series starts on BBC4 on the 17th November. Why are they releasing the full series on dvd on 17th December, as it won't be finished on the BBC?

Obviously they wanted it out for christmas, but I would have thought the BBC wouldn't haven't agreed to this when buying the rights.

Am very much looking forward to this. Glad to hear it's a ten episode series as opposed to twenty - season two had a much tighter, more controlled pace than the sometimes unwieldy first. I'll be waiting 'til the BBC broadcast: hopefully the third case will be as compelling as the previous two. Even if not, more time with Lund and her wonderful jumpers is to be welcomed :)

    Looking forward to this too.

If it starts on November 17th with the usual two episodes per Saturday. Then it will finish on Saturday December 15th.

With the DVD being released two days later.

Now that makes more sense. I thought it was just one episode per week.

Just watched the first episode of the new series and it was brilliant.

It's an all new story line (again) with new characters (except for Lund and a few of the police force), so it takes a while to get into. But at the end of the episode things become more clear as the main characters/plot is drawn out for you.

Now onto to the second episode...

Sofie Grabol, aka The Killing's Sarah Lund: 'I took off my, jumper and my gun, and cried all, the way home'

The third series of The Killing concludes the cult Danish drama, which means that Sofie Grabol, aka detective Sarah Lund, can pack away her trademark knitwear for good. She talks to Gerard Gilbert about saying goodbye, Lund's new love interest and what she really thinks of the American remake..

    Full article here. (no spoilers)

I'm on episode four of series three now, and am loving this series. Much prefer it to season 2.

Starts on 15th Nov on BBC4, with two episodes per night. 2 hrs of TV bliss on Saturday nights for 5 weeks. Ye're for a threat.

If it isn't starting on BBC until November, where are ye watching it? 3rd party subtitling?

If you speak Danish then you wouldn't need subtitles.

If you don't speak Danish then how do you know how good the subtitles are ?

You will know by watching it - as in, how good the actor's actions/expressions are to the dialogue. It becomes obvious after a minute of viewing. Also by reading the source thread and the translator/interpreter previous viewer feedback.

Sky Arts had 'official' Romanzo Criminale subs and they were bad.

I'm stuck on episode 6. The subtitle guy is sick.

I guess I'll have to wait a month and catch up with BBC. I'm sorry now I didn't just wait anyway. It's nice to have a double-header to look forward to on a Saturday night. Keeps me out of the pub too, with cheaper beer at home.

Episode 5 was possibly my favorite Forbrydelsen episode to date. Much preferring this season to S2.

    Sarah Lund' jumpers..

The original sweater, as worn by series heroine Sarah Lund, was chosen by actress Sofie Gråbøl, as she explains in an interview with "The Guardian" "We had a costume meeting and I saw that sweater and thought: 'That's it!'," she says, despite the jumper being decidedly unpolice-like. "The reason it's so perfect is because it tells so many stories. It tells of a person who doesn't use her sexuality – that's a big point. Lund's so sure of herself she doesn't have to wear a suit. She's at peace with herself."

Superb opening episodes. Real momentum, lots of intriguing plot strands and characters. Plus, all the political intrigue we've come to express from the series ;)
The scene where Lund spotted her son with his pregnant girlfriend
    - intense ****

Yep, the political stuff is as intriguing as always - still wrapping my head around who works where, all the names and that sort of thing.

Lund's kind of in the background a bit, or was in the first episode, but I don't mind that given what's at stake in the investigation. Also, even though she has
a new partner, the green ish, though not clueless Juncker bloke, she's kinda split between two, or not really assigned to anyone with the Special Branch (they're more MI5, rather than police, right?) guy hanging around, too. Are we to presume that what we saw of the daughter earlier was more than a rash/allergy? I presume not since she was checked out by a doctor. I think what works with this show is just the beat of the scenes - they tend not to overstay their welcome.

It will become much clearer in the next episode. Had the same problem myself (see my earlier post).

And yes you're right, he's the MI5 equivalent - 'Intelligence Service of Denmark' or something like that.

The Danes seem to have an obsession with political intrigue with this and The Bridge. I also seem to remember in The Bridge that some huge Danish company was threatening to up sticks unless the politicos gave them a carrot.

It's good to see it back never the less. :D

Another strong duo tonight - the pacing barely let up from the end of episode three! Real urgency to proceedings - the stakes are believably and compellingly high for pretty much everyone. They left us on a helluva cliff hanger (although would have been raging if I had to wait a week between three and four :pac:) -
spotting the flashing light in the window
was a real 'oh ****!' moment.

I do, however, express disappointment that they haven't fixed the one thing about Forbrydelsen that I really hate: the longest 'previously on...' segments in television history!

Are the catch ups a possibly BBC thing?

    3.03 and 3.04

During #3 I was thinking that the political heads weren't as well drawn compared to those in the other two cases Lund's been on, but that could be nostalgia on my part, and I revised that view a bit. Yes, it's bloody stupid that they
let the girl's emotionally compromised, if not showing it that much, father into the crime scene and investigation room, and didn't contain him at the caravan site, but 8/10 police based shows do that. The PM and his aides get awfully fast updates re the course of the investigation, but I suppose they have access.

Scene in English was...not sure what the right word is, but not bad, nor did it pull me out of the episode. The little girl's pretty sharp, eh? Plus, how flippin' cool was the forensic lab setting when the interviewed pathologist? Don't forget to pull your gun on a pregnant woman...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,286 ✭✭✭seligehgit

Have a strong suspicion that Carsten is the killer, reckon Maja is still in love with Zeuthen and he knows this unpalatable truth.Emilie is very comfortable with this supposed stranger who has kidnapped her,he has intimate knowledge of how to keep her cooperative. The connection to the orphaned child I can only speculate on.Lund may dig up he was a former platform worker in the North Sea.Zeuthen's right hand man I think is definitely involved in a cover up of Zeeland's involvement in the previous case.Robert Zeuthen is an innocent party to these past events.Ready for this theory to blow up in my face.:D
    Seriously good couple of episodes!

Truthfully, I was a little concerned about the quality of this season, but these episodes made me reconsider. Thought they were a bit better paced, also. Well done, and also really emotional. Sofie Gråbøl was amazing in episode 5, but everyone seemed on top form here, too.

    3.05 and 3.06

The truck scene took up about a third of episode 5 and was just well done without being laboured.
You knew he wasn't in the cab once Lund started walking towards the vehicle. The gun shot effects on the boat were crappy enough that you knew something wasn't right - I don't recall seeing a muzzle flash. Good to see Brix square off with the smartly dressed public prosecutor fecker and I liked his line 'I don't have time for this rubbish', or whatever it was. All the emotional stuff - the parents, Lund the next morning - Tree Reflection scene, and with the pregnant daughter in law...all done well without shoving it down your throat. Borch in typical man mode not coping on that Lund was upset at the hospital.

The political stuff is still pushing along pretty well and I did laugh at the scene when the bearded advisor came back (when the PM had to turn around to realise he was there). I'm not sure the extent to which the PM can order Special Branch (those of the MI5 variety) around operationally and the bloke briefing him seemed a little young, but I guess he may not have been the SB Director General. For a PM he's not exactly doing a lot of Prime Ministering, but he's caught up in all of this - the investigation, its fallout, and so forth, plus, it's a behind the scenes kinda show, really. His aide, Karen, went a bit CSI there with the CCTV stuff!

I do get the feeling we may be due another suicide, a political one - the Justice Minister, perhaps. And one of Lund's partners will probably die, it's tradition at this stage, right?

These night time episodes are just damn cool.

Oh, and the jumper comes off. :pac:

To be honest I think it has been superb from the get go this season.Totally agree, some quite moving scenes with the family caught up in the kidnapping, quite similar to the family turmoil in season 1.Tree reflection scene was first notch. The PM's young advisor is in fact his brother, possibly a bit of nepotism! It was subtlely revealed in an earlier episode that his aide Karen is in love with the PM,hence her going above and beyond the call of duty for an as yet unrequited love.I was full damn sure Borch was our man having previously suspected Maja's fiancee ,not entirely convinced by Borch's explanation,.God all Sarah's partners tend to meet a grisly end.Convinced Zeuthen's right man has some involvement in the case.Really nice to see Sarah minus her jumper, sexy minx!!
Kinda missed having the culprit's voice on the phone.Anybody suspect Emilie is still alive?
