    hi everyone ,
after recently having a new arrival in the house i turned on my ps3 for the first time after about 6 months. went through a long update and played away online(blops) for a couple of hours.
went back today and nothing, its reading audio and video discs but not the games... its the original model which had gotten a lot of use.
    any ideas?
    thanks

Its either a simple fix or replacement as far as I can tell a friend had a similar problem but his wouldn't read anything so he had to clean off the lens. As yours has been unused for so long I'd say that's the problem and if not new blu ray drives can be gotten cheap enough online and are simple to fit but hopefully it won't come to that :)

I'm not sure how he opened up the drive itself but I think it clips open ill find out off him tomor and get back to you but you will need to buy a lens cleaner out of argos or somwhere like that will be cheap I'd say.

This is the best tutorial I could find for you as my friend said he just played it by ear.

    www.gaminggenerations.com/tutorials/52/1-t1052/&ei=l259UNX9KYKa1gb0hYHACA&ct=np&whp=330

It might seem like a big task but if you take your time and do it right it will be a doddle :) let me know if you encounter any problems.

Checked mine today for you and as far as I can tell there is 5 really small screws on the bottom of the drive though I didn't open it.
