    Hi all

Due to finance situations, I need to get rid of mr car worth 20,000 Euro and buy a car for about 14,000 Euro.

Would a garage take a trade in like this and give me the balance of my higher values car ?

i.e. where the value of the car being traded in is worth more than the car being bought.

This may not end well for you.

If the car is 'worth' 20k, you won't get 20k, also the car 'worth' 16k may be gettable for 13k elsewhere.

For such a small difference in value it's not worth it. Even if you were swapping a 20k car for another 20k car it'd normally cost you a few grand to do so.

Try and your own, if nothing else, the experience will show you what it's worth and what you could get for it.

I agree with this, but to answer the initial query the answer is yes. I will give you 6k back if the values are correct, but to do that your car must be worth 20 wholesale and the 14k car is 14 retail.

Garages generally don't like handing back money so you will not get a good deal being honest. The garage will only give you 20k if they recon they can make good money on it and the 14 k car will be complete retail price you will get no discount. Tbh to get a garage to give you 6k back they will have to be doing really well on the deal. The best option Is to sell privately easier said then done on a 20k car I know, but then if you sell it for 19k you could easily get the 14k car 13k euro cash so still get 6k, I'd try selling it privately first if I was you even if youhave to take a bit less than 20k you will still ultimately do better as you are buying your new car for cash.

Sell the A4 privately. It'll save you €1500 or more I reckon.
