Glass Insulation Film

    Hi,

was viewing a house recently, and might consider making an offer. But it does have a single-glazed glass conservatory, that would be impossible to upgrade to double-glazing without rebuilding from scratch.

So I googled whether its possible to insulate single-glazed glass, and sure enough I found something called EnerLogic 70 Low-E window film.
    http://www.enerlogicfilm.com/en/IntroducingEnerlogic.aspx

Anyone any experience in, or hear anything about this stuff or any other products like it? Does it work? And is it available in Ireland?

    Thanks.

I'd be interested in this myself. I'm working in an office with big panels of single-glazing, and it's impossible to heat in the winter. I had a skim through the website and it's a bit light on the technical details. There's a 'parameter sheet' that says it can get the u-value of single-glazing down to around 0.6, but I'm guessing that's American u-value units, not W/m2K. Like I said, a bit light on the technicals.

.it's very light on technical details aNd talks about radiant heat just like those turkey foil insulations.. So Until I see a European cert and read its fine print, is steer clear

Then again these window films tend to be pretty cheap. Maybe try it for a winter and see what happens.

Going back to the OP - have you thought about secondary glazing mcbert? Fixing a second pane of glass to the inside of the frame, and sealing around. Not a bad solution, though you probably wont be able to open the windows after that.
