    Hey,

If I was living in a smallholding, trying to support myself off the land, could I claim any kind of benefit from the government. I'm looking at starting up a smallholding with my girlfriend over the next few years. but while living out there would I be able to claim any kind of benefit?
I'm Irish 27, have been working all my life

Your post is a contradiction. you want to be self sufficient but need to relay on the government. How about getting a job and be truly self sufficient?

unfortunately 100% is not a target for me, I'd need a small income to get by, i'm just inquiring about benefits as i'm completely clueless on the topic, thought I could get some insight on here

If you need a source of income, why not sell some of your produce at a farmers market?

You aren't really going to get a very good response here if you want dole just so you can grow your own vegetables.

    Seriously Op.....

Anyway you may apply for a grant to start up your own business, as in producing produce and then selling it in markets or local stores, therefore having an income to support yourself

as for staying on the dole, them funding you to get starting in your "good life" living and then you staying on the dole as you still need income...come on, do you really think this is going to happen, stop smoking so much of the green stuff and take a big does of a reality pill
