making the decission this year to give my spaniel every chance to get on to the whole water fowling scene , before that the lab got the ducks and i kept the spaniel for more rough work like the woodcock only ever bringing him out once in a while after duck .

made the trip out thursday night with a shooting buddie and 3 teal came in to my left . knocking the middle teal it landed in a flooded drain with a bit of hedge either side .

on sending the dog my buddie knocked a duck over to the right about 50 yards out in a splash surround by rushes ! after about 2 mins there was no sign of dog or duck and on calling him up he decided that he would make a twat out of me and take off across the splash with not a care in the world to the very angry dismay of my buddie . at this stage there was no duck retrieved . On retiring i send him for the teal one last time and low and behold perfect . .

then this evening called up the buddie to go for a shot , if your bringing that bollox of a dog im staying at home is what i was greeted with . sticking to my guns i headed of alone with my spaniel .

was in position about 20min when 2 teal fly by to my right , took a lovely left and right , sent the dog and two perfect retrieves back to hand , then just as i was packing up , wigeon to my left picked out one and knocked him at about 35 yards into flooded rushes , send ben and straight out and back , three perfect marks the penny had finally dropped with him .
there was a nice cut of tripe for him when he got home .
