From the Dunleer AC facebook page:

This year will mark the 40th anniversary of the death of Noel Mc Guill in the Ras. Noel was tragically killed on the 24th June 1972 when he collided with a bridge at Ballintra Co Donegal. This years Ras paid tribute to Noel, Dunleer A.C Athlete Colin Robinson aslo took part in this race. Calling on all runners and cyclists to turn out in force to ensure Noels contribution to Irish Sport is not forgotten.

Now that the Marathon is over, anyone for a bit of Cross Country...Do not be scared, this is not the cross country of old where one had to climb though ditches and so on...nice and flat with one slight incline (well, by cross country standards!), underfoot conditions very good! :)

That little spake looks very familiar pconn!!!

Looking forward to another great day in Darver. RFR Jnr declared the last day that she wants to race cross country, so she'll be toeing the line in her wellies in the U-7 race!!

So only a few days left to the 40th running of the Noel McGuill/Sandra Floyd open cross country races. No need to register in advance, just show up on the day and it's one of the cheapest races in the country, only €5!! Should be a fantastic day of cross county running and all at Dunleer AC hope to see some of you there!

Will post directions to the venue in a few days.

Races kick off at 12pm tomorrow with the senior races beginning around one. Gates will be open from 10.30 if anyone wants to come down for a long warm up, entry only 3 euro for juniors, 5 euro for adults or 10 euro for a car full of athletes! Conditions are good and it's giving a nice morning in the North East tomorrow so come down and join us for a great day of cross country running. The race venue is at the Louth County grounds, just off the main Dundalk to Ardee road near the Readypenny Inn.

    From Dunleer AC:

In 1972 when Noel McGuill embarked on the "RAS" EPO was the glue used in a puncture repair kit, whilst HGH was a type of new plastic. Honest go God athlete was Noel, tragically killed doing what he loved. On Sunday many more honest to God athletes will follow in his foot steps, there may not be any Olympic Champions on view on Sunday, just athletes giving things their best effort, for the love of the sport. Not forgetting Sandra Floyd another honest to God athlete, killed in a car crash, Sunday will the World Remberance for Road Traffic victims. Join us in remembering two great ambassadors for the sport, become an ambassador.....give it socks!

Fantastic day of running in Darver today with a great turn out for both the junior and senior races. I will post full results as soon as thy are available but for now, the women's race was won in classy fashion by Fiona Roche with Rathfarnham's Seán Hehir claiming the men's title for the second year in a row.
Thanks to everyone who came to support the event, planning is already underway for the Rás na hEireann which will taking place next February!

Really enjoyed todays race. The course was well marked out and the underfoot conditions were remarkably good. Myself and my daughter paid just 8 euro for both of us to run our races. So refreshing these days to run in an event where grass root athletics comes before profit. Looking forward to the results. Well done Dunleer!

It's a good job the course was marked out yesterday, good chance it could've been very crooked if it was left until this morning.

If I could give stars for the race, it'd be 5 without a doubt. Yes, I'm biased, but it's a great race. Excellent, accessable venue, loads of parking, good quality course with a decent hill to mess you up a bit, and consistently a top quality field.

Next up for Dunleer will be the Rás.
