Did anyone go to the coin fair today? Did you see anything interesting? Did you buy anything interesting? Did you get a bargain?

One of the dealers had a 1986 coin set, the one with the gold horse on it, but it was in near mint condition, almost no glue leakage and no paper damage.

The ladies from the Central Bank say the release of the €15 Hound coin has now been moved to 12th December.

There was certainly no shortage of Michael Collins coins of all types and prices.

The fair is on again Saturday and Sunday, 11am-6pm, €5 single admission, €10 family admission, RDS, Anglesea Road Entrance, Hall 3, Parking is €6 in the RDS or pay and display outside.

I went there on Saturday, bought a cased 1988 Dublin millennium 50p proof coin for 10 euro (no cert though), still a bargain. Got a couple of Irish silver 1/2 crowns, spent another 80 euro on 1st day covers, including this one

My most interesting acquisition of the day is a 1966 Pearse 10s with no edge inscription. Yes, smooth edge. It's the only one I have ever seen, could be unique. It will go into my permanent collection. I won't tell you how much I paid for it.

Couldn’t wipe the smile off my face on my way home.

Did the dealer realise that it had a smooth edge or did you just stumble across it?

I'm destined never to ake it to one of these fairs! Everytime they'r eon, I'm all ready to go until something else comes up that I can't out off. :(

    Oh well...

Do the dealers have much in the way of ancient coins?

Heading in today. Been looking forward to this for weeks. Looking to get some proper Mylar envelopes for my banknotes and a proper stamp album.

Other than that I'll be looking for Irish pre-decimal coins in the years I don't have, some Victorian stamps particularly a good example of a two-pence blue. And if the price is right a £50 Lady Lavery so then I would have all of them.

I manged to get a couple of bargains over the weekend. I got a Polar year double set at a great price and an Irish 2006 proof set with a nice low certificate number. It's amazing to see the difference in prices across the different stands.

I was talking to a few dealers that were selling there this weekend, two of them said it was the quietest fair they ever did and I dont think anyone did that well

Id say there was great bargains to be had Sunday evening there

Yeah you're probably right. It was quiet on Friday but I assumed that was because most people were in work and it was quiet on Sunday but I assumed that was because it was raining. I don't know what it was like on Saturday. The ladies on the central bank stall certainly seemed bored out of their minds yesterday. Dealers were keen to make a deal yesterday, but I had spent my limit on Friday so had to resist the temptation. I'll have to start saving again for February.
