So Microsoft have dominated the Desktop and Laptop platform for years and while they are very much relavent today, they are failing to craic the mobile market, miserably.

Should Microsoft throw in the towel and concentrate on their current market dominance or should they partner with Google who doesn't appear to be topping the list either to develop a platform that rivals the other four?

At present, sure but I will admit that WP as an OS to the idiot user is much easier to use than say ios or Android. From a design pov it is also excellent, simplistic to use and also with WP8 and onwards doesn't require a "syncing" application. Coupled with the fact Nokia are using WP I think Microsoft will gain, if slowly marketshare in the mobile area. As much as I like Android and while it is excellent from a usability perspective (particularly from ICS on), I do think large visual tiles for apps is more accessible for a mobile platform than icons that the others use, my opinion anyways
