Will a "freeview" tuner pickup Saorview?

    Hi folks,

    This might be a stupid question but anyhow....

    Lots of cheap freeview (UK) mpeg5 tuners online.. will they pickup saorview in Ireland?

    Standard definition Freeview uses MPEG 2 coding. Saorview uses MPEG 4 (HP @ L4), so the decoder will have to be able for this.

    Some equipment advertised as Freeview in the UK may be capable of Saorview reception.

    No such thing as an MPEG-5 tuner. MPEG-4 is what you're looking for.

    Go for a Saorview approved receiver - http://www.saorview.ie/equipment/

    If you wish to go the UK route to purchase a DTT receiver go for a FreeviewHD spec receiver which includes the correct MPEG-4 video decoder.
