My buddy in canada was a passanger in a car accident. He was taken to hospital and discharged. It was 400dollars for the visit. That was 2 days ago,and now he has some pain going down his lower back to his leg. The hospital told him to return if he needs to. But he said its crazy money to attend the hospital, I also told him to get on to his travel insurance company. He is on a work/hol visa. Does anyone know the hospital cost sitution in canada. and has anyone had experience of an accident in canada. (The police attended also and the other driver admitted he was at fault)

What province is he in? Does he have his provincial health coverage?
If he doesnt have have coverage then he might be betterto get on to his insurance. With his travel insurance he will likely have to stump up the cost and have it reimbursed. But they will be able to tell him when he contacts them

He should also be able to claim from the other driver's insurance - but may have to shell out up front in the meantime.

He may not have the money to pay up front. Do you think he will have to pay for a return visit to the hospital (400dollars) or would they consider it as part of the the first visit . Im only familar with the process here, where you pay your hospital visit fee only once for a particular problem, and other related visits are not charged.

Thats why they are asking what province he is in as each one is different. If he is signed up to provincial health care, he shouldn't have to pay anything at all. Have been in hospital here several times and never paid anything. Thats in Alberta

Tell him to call the insurance company or broker of the car he was inside at the time. They will handle getting accident benefits quickly.

. . . and he should get the $400 back.
