Am I entitled to anything?

    Hello,
my boss recently told me that my job isn't safe. I'm 22 years old and I've been in this job for the last 3 1/2 years (the first two years full time, the last year and a half part time).

I live in a house share & have private college fees and now I'm worried that, as I had an hourly wage of just over 9 euro and paid little tax, I won't be entitled to any benefits.

Are you a full time students? Full time students are not usually permitted to get unemployment benefit. If this is the case and you lose your job, you may have a choice between study and UB.

The first question is how many weeks you have worked over your lifetime - based on info give, you should be ok there, as I think you need two years (104 weeks).

As regards what you would get on UB / if you are entitled to anything, you need to look at your P60 for two years ago. We are currently 2012, so look at 2010. If you lose your job in 2013, you will need to look at the 2011 p60 (two years earlier is what SW look at first). The question is how many weeks you worked two years ago (2010) and how much money you earned over the course of the year 2010.

If you worked 39 weeks or more in 2010 and earned about 15,000 or more you will probably get the full 188 per week for 9-12 months, and then go on the reduced rate of JA afterwards.

If you worked 26 weeks in 2010 and 26 weeks in 2009 this also helps you qualify.

In addition to UB you can apply for rent allowance, but may not qualify, as you are young. Also a medical card.

Thank you you've calmed me down a bit.
