    Hi,
I raced in the early 1950s with the Penrose Flyers in Stella Gardens in Ringsend. I wonder is there anyone reading this that has any memory of the sport of Cycle Speedway in Dublin in the 1950s. I am also looking for any photos that I could have copies of.
I am researching the sport as a history project and would be very greatful for any comment.
I can be contacted by PM
    Thank you
    Joe

    Hey Joe,

I edited your e-mail out because you will find a huge jump in Spam from Spam bots etc. People can PM you and give your e-mail out that way if you wish.

Good luck with the project, please keep us updated if you get any photos/stories etc.

... a relic of a bygone age, morana...

    ...Eddie's getting on a bit as well:D

Brendan Culleton may have access to some old photos - his webpage can be accessed via the IVCA homepage (www.ivca.info)

Mentioned before, here, with a photo (source not credited): http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056151431

But from the lack of replies in that thread I suspect info might be thin on the ground among Boardsies.

    Hi all cycling fans,
I am researching the Cycle Speedway scene in Dublin in the 1950s. I wonder if there is anybody reading this that can shed any light in it. I am interested in anything to do with the sport. Any copies of photos, memorabilia or records that are still in existence would be appreciated. Anything loaned to me would be treated with the utmost care and respect and returned as received.
Is there anyone who has any memories or a father (or even grandfather!) who can remember anything? Even the smallest detail would be welcome.
To jog memories here is a list of some teams that raced in the 1950s.
    1. Dublin Eagles.
    2. Sackville Saints.
    3. Whitehall Pirates
    4. Drumcondra Dukes.
    5. Croydon Rockets.
    6. Shelbourne Tigers.
    7. Phibsboro Aces
    8. Kildare Devils.
    9. Lindsay Lions.
    Thank you in advance.

    Ooops! Sorry. My mistake.

Would it be ok to add these names from the Penrose Flyers to see if any one knows anything about them?

    David Barr
    Larry Byrne
    Con Clusky
    Colin Dowdall
    Paddy Hunt
    Joseph Keegan
    Oliver Newman
    Jim O'Brien
    Joseph O'Brien
    Jack Parker(capt)

    Hope that's alright!
