Environmental Science roles in Ireland

    Hi.

I'm new to Boards, and looking for a bit of advice. I know it's generally frowned upon to jump straight in asking for advice, but perhaps I can return the favour when I've been here a while.

I'm looking for work in the environmental sector currently. I graduated with a BSc in Environmental science in 2009 and have since had a number of jobs. Two years in a quality control role in the food manufacturing industry, one years experience as a laboratory analyst, and am now employed in supply chain.

I took my most recent job because it was there, and i figured I'd give it a go, But it really isn't working out for me.

What I would really like to work in is the environmental sector, working outdoors perhaps and doing something which interests me.

All my employment to date has been in the food industry, and most of it has been in a quality role. I'd like to break away from this but am finding it difficult. Although I have a degree in the environmental sciences, I have no experience in this sector.
Is there any good way of getting experience in this sector which may lead on to a job?
I do see some jobs advertised, but they are advertised through recruitment agencies. I'd imagine that my CV would not get very far when submitted for these roles as my environmental experience is quite limited.

Perhaps someone else has overcome these problems before, or has some advice to offer?

All comments welcome, good and bad!

    Thank You.

    Hi,

I realise this post is 4 years old now but just came across it...I've just finished a degree in Environmental Science and myself are finding it hard to find any work, like you said they're all looking for experience which is difficult to get but i'm curious how you got into the food industry because its an area I'd like to get into if possible..just wondering what kind of quality work you were doing? be happy if you could help.

    Thank you
