how to play CCTV footage?

i have a disk generated by cctv system, however there are only .DAT files and IMG files on the disk, i tried playing them with various different players but format not recognized. any ideas how i can view the footage?

sounds like a dahua dvr but these are re badged by qvis, icrealtime, xvision, ljd, adata etc etc. Without knowing the model of dvr I think its a case of trial and error
