How to lower high res CO2 emissions for NCT?

Anybody know how I go about doing this? Failed nct on this. Somebody told me I should have driven the arse out of the car to warm up the engine way more and this lowers them. Somebody else mentioned an additive to the petrol.... Any other suggestions so I dont arrive to the local garage and get taken for a ride!
