    Hi ,
Quick question , do you need to have a registered business in order to buy a commercial jeep and tax it as commercial ?
Or it it the case of having a commercial jeep but tax it as a non-commercial ?
Looking to buy a cheap landrover ( if that exists !) but do not want to pay €1300 or more on road tax.

    Many thanks
    Ah sure !

Guys , planning to buy an old jeep purely for hunting. Looking for a commercial as i don't fancy paying €1000 or more for the road tax. Only problem is that i do not have a business nor VAT number so from what i am reading on the net i am not in title to get a commercial.
Was wondering what you drive ? Surely it is crazy to pay a jeep let's say €2000 and more than €1000 alone in tax just to drive it a few times. ( well a bit more during the season )

I have a crewcab l200 which is perfect for the job. I'm not vat registered either but have it about 2 years just before the greens threw a wobbly on commercial tax

if you want to tax a commercial jeep you will fill in form RF111A ( need to be stamp in a garda station)and have proof of commercial insurance and some tax office look of proof of a business too

Yeah I get about 100 miles for 25 euro at the moment on 2.8l crewman l200. I try not to drive it when I can avoid it, but it's my toy and I love it, best vehicle I ever bought.

No.doubt they will fnck it up in the budget

Thanks guys. Yes was thinking about a Landrover with classic tax but wouldn't fancy the 150 miles drive round trip for stalking. Could get a herd number , good idea, will 3 kids qualify for a herd ?
I am settled for a Landrover , either defender 90 or discovery pre 1998, but the tax is a killer. Just love those jeeps.

AFAIK you can also use a herd number.

Check with the local tax office, there's several ways of proving business use but they are tough on it.

Merged the two threads, didn't spot it was the same OP in the thread that I assume was moved from the shooting forum :o

When you start looking at Land Rovers you'll find 90s are thin on the ground and you'll buy 2 or 3 Discoverys for the price of a good one!

Private tax on any older Disco or Defender is €1050 which is what I shell out annually to feed my obsession

i have been looking at landrovers 90 for a long time now , not many good ones around for decent money.
If any available then they are gone within hours.
But again the idea of paying as much in road tax as for the jeep is mad.

what year is your l200 to the best of my knowledge are they not 2.5 .

anyway op it your travelling that sort of distance for a deer go with the disco ive a 96 one does about 35 mile to the gallon and is the height of comfort and enough room for 10 deer , and def one of the best fwd systems you can get in a jeep

It's a 05 import, it's a strada which has a 2.8l engine, also no timing belt gas a chain instead which is cool. For it two years ago with it 44k miles on it.

L200, commercial tax - private insurance, no vat number.
Never been asked, don't expect to be asked either.

If the vehicle is yours for a while, no problem. Change of ownership is when proof of commercial use is asked so stick with your current L200 stoneill ;)
