    What is the budget?

Its expensive but I think these are nice.

    Rare enough in Ireland.
We drive its skoda cousin and are quite happy.
    - The doors are large and wide, so easy move the bambino
    - slightly higher off the ground helps this also.
    - They support the Iso-fix child seat
    - 5 star safety rating
    - boot is ok
    - performs quite well on the road.

What kind of driving will you be doing?

    Hey,
My budget is about €25000 plus what ever I get for the TT and I do very little mileage so petrol will be fine.

I know if we won the lottery the wife would get one.

I don't think they are everyones cup of tea... I think the look pretty cool though & seem quite competent cars from what I read.

Don't know if it would suit your limited milage though.

Audi A5? Really nice car, took test drive and definitely has that sporty feel/look as well:

A Range Rover or even a Q3 seems a bit of overkill to me for only one child. Any decent size family hatchback would more than do the job.

Jez, would love one of those!

Don't be one of those new mums who feels they have to buy a tank to protect their child. Plenty of more simple means of transport than that beast.

Maybe I would be better off with a hatch I'm only used to smaller cars anyway.

    Would this be good?

    any opinions on the Gti?

Not a big fan of the Golf myself - kinda boring imo.

How about a Mini Countryman? (XL Mini)

One point you're overlooking is that it is far, far handier to lift a baby in its seat up and into a car, rather than into a lower saloon or hatch. Which is what you would tend to do with a crossover like a q3, evoque, ix35, etc.

It can be a pain with all that leaning down into the car in a tight space to secure the seat. Especially after birthing the thing, no less (I would imagine...)

How about something like.... http://www.carzone.ie/search/Lexus/GS450H/EXECUTIV/201237210001863/advert?channel=CARS I drove one last year, really impressed, great performance and lots of toys....and plenty of space inside :)

Have you bought your buggy yet? If you've gone for one of the fancy travel systems (car seat, pram, seat) then you'll need something with a decent boot.

I don't think any of the suggestions so far will accomodate one of the travel systems. A lightweight buggy will fit in to most boots with ease, but doesn't leave much more room for all the rest of the kit that goes with a newborn.

Boot in the A5 Sportback is pretty shallow and it's the roofline is very low for trying to get a baby in to a car seat. Passat CC has a better boot, but again is a bit on the low side. Boot in the V40 is dissapointingly small for a Volvo wearing a V badge :(

V60 T3 or D4 R-Design? "Lifestyle" Estate rather than a big boxy estate, and what's better to protect the little un than a Volvo - and they really do.

I can't speak for the Golf itself. But given that boot space and ride Height don't seem to be top of the list, then if its a hatch you want, the GTI probably wont let you down. In fact it might be the pick of the bunch.

In terms of what was mentioned here though, I'd go for the A5 and then the Evoque. Just my opinion

GTi fits the sporty bill, I'd probably go for that. What's your TT worth? You have 25k plus the TT, if your TT was worth another 10k then I'd wait until the Mk7 GTi comes out. You won't be driving much with a newborn and the TT will be fine for the rear-facing child seats until you get the newer car.

I think the lads were saying on another thread that an updated version of the Golf is on the way soon.

    Edit:

    Here it is.

'The latest Golf is lighter, safer, more advanced, more spacious, more efficient and better equipped than previous generations'
