Galaxy S3 - on 48 months always roaming

I bought a sim free Galaxy S3 recently from Amazon Germany. Arrived and worked perfectly with my 48Months.ie SIM.

I then followed this guide to install Jelly Bean on it.

    http://www.broadbandgenie.co.uk/blog/20121003-install-jelly-bean-samsung-galaxy-s3-right-now-without-rooting

    That all worked fine.

I added the 48 months APN info as described on their site but every time I turn on mobile data the phone thinks I'm roaming.

I've looked into changing my CSC but am unsure what to change it to, and am unsure if I need to.

Anyone know what could be causing this and how I can change my phone so it knows it's not roaming?

    Thanks

I'm with 48.ie and have the same issue as yourself however they state on their website that the roaming option has to be on if you wish to receive mobile Internet.

My gf is with Tesco and she has the same issue.

Maybe it has something to do with 48 and Tesco using O2 network?

yeah i get the same the odd time 3 roams to vodafone in bad coverage areas.

Its roaming in country or something i believe when you are on ICS they just call it roaming on the s3

Have you been able to get mobile data despite this?

    Yeah, no issues with that.

hmm..dammit, I've added their APN but still can't get any MMS's to display. Annoying.

Just checked and turning on mobile data still doesn't work for me. Presume it has something to do with the APN being wrong. Can you point me somewhere that has the exact settings for the S3? Thanks!

UPDATE: Turned on roaming, all seems ok now. Very odd, wasn't like that on the iphone. Also annoying if you leave the country that data roaming is turned on by default.

like i said above it was different in ics, perhaps when an over the air update is through it might be different (doubt it though)

I don't think that this has anything to do with any device.
I have ICS on my SGS2 ,my gf has GB on her SGS2 and doesn't make any difference.

    Voda/Meteor - no issues
    Tesco/48 -always roaming

    Hi guys,

Sorry to dig up an old thread but I've just joined 48 and I'm having the same issue.
Just to be clear, on the S3 when you are on the 48 network you will always have the small 'R' beside the network signal bar even though you are not really 'roaming' in the conventional sense?
I live very close to the border with the north and can get UK signals from my house so this is a bit worrying!!
Also i had data disabled on my old o2 account and cant seem to get data to work since ive switched to 48, do i need some updated settings???

    thanks.

also - is the 48 network down today? i cant even get a mobile signal now!

48 is terrible for smartphone use tbh.

Yes, you will always be "Roaming", same as Tesco and Three's 2G coverage.

Make sure you have the 48 APN settings to get data working.

thanks for that, ive got their internet settings now.

i think you are right about their network though, it seems very patchy to say the least, is tesco mobile any better?

No, they're both neutered as o2 MVNOs.

If you have a smartphone go with Vodafone or 3, your S3 is a waste on Tesco/48. You'll pay less per month but go nuts with shocking data.

20E/mo, unlimited any network texts, unlimited data, free weekend any network calls. And I get up to 12Mb down. On an S3 atm too. 10E month with edge speeds is a false economy.

This hasn't been my experience. I rarely have a problem with data on 48, regularly get HSDPA speeds, dropping to 3G occasionally and rarely have edge. Mainly tested in Dublin / Wexford so can't claim amazing service outside those areas.

Free any network calls are what's important to me and while a 20 euro a month unlimited data plan is nice I don't get anywhere near using my data cap on the plan I'm on so it wouldn't be a benefit. The only annoyance is the whole roaming thing but that's a minor point compared to the benefits the plan provides. For the price what they offer suits me fine, YMMV.
