Some 36 puppies have been recovered from two cars in Dublin as part of an animal cruelty investigation.

Twenty-five Jack Russells and a number of cocker spaniels, springer spaniels, terriers, beagles and labradors were discovered when police stopped two cars on the Old Malahide Road in Coolock on Tuesday.

It is believed the dogs had been brought into the country from the UK and were to be sold on the black market for several thousand euros.

The puppies were found in boxes in the rear of both vehicles.

Officers from the Dublin Society For The Prevention Of Cruelty To Animals have taken the animals into quarantine.

Two men, one in his 20s and the other in his 30s, were arrested at the scene and taken to Coolock Police Station.

They have been charged in connection with the incident and will appear before Dublin District Court early next month.

Ruff justice needs to be applied.

You'd want to be barking mad to think you'd get away with it.

Country has gone to the dogs

If they are found guilty, i`d say could get canine years for this.

The suspects have been released pending the court case, they had to pay a pound in bail.

There wouldn't be any dog smugglers if there weren't any stupid people buying dogs like they'd buy an ornament on Ebay.
