In Ireland, at the moment, you don't have to pre declare your car off the road. When you are putting it back on the road you get the tax form signed at a Garda station declaring that it was off the road and then tax it from then.

you could get a forklift, lift the car ensuring the 4 wheels are off the ground/road.

Nope you don't if it's off the road and you are selling it you complete the vrc send it to Shannon for change of ownership and then the new owner is liable for tax from the date of the sale.

just keep driving it. and when you decide you'd like to pay tax again just pop down to your local tax office. Thats what everyone does right?

If they want to take it for a test drive it needs to be taxed.

    And insured.

Another person driving your car wont be covered by their insurance if your car has no insurance on it

Old chestnut this. Some insurance companies require the other car to be insured Many companies do not require this. Check your policy.

And the 'driving other cars' extension is normally 3rd party only, so if a person test-driving a car you are selling writes it off - you are SOL.
