In Schorpio's Saorview guide it says
If you still see the old version of Aertel, then you should look for an option to turn on digital text. If it’s not there, it means your TV isn’t 100% compatible with the Saorview service
Is that on the screen or on the remote. If the screen is it on the actual aertel page or on a settings page? This is the STB

Also on this TV there is no aertel on RTE2 only on RTE1

No old aertel is broadcast on RTE2HD.

That box doesnt support the new text (called MHEG5). If thats an issue you should return it.

Aertel old text will be gone from the 24th of this month which means you will have no text service.

Ok thanks. What basis can I return it though. It does what it says it will.

Didn't know that thanks. It is not of much concern to me but someone who I am helping with STB would need text. Will all saorview approved have digital text?

Well if you are looking for the argument.

They do not fulfill the basic requirements of reception of Saorview.

Receiving Digital Text (MHEG5) is a basic requirement of Saorview equipment. These boxes are not Saorview approved (a certified product list) and are sold as compatible. If you were not made aware of this shortcoming when you bought it, you have a reasonable argument to return it and get a refund.

The Saorview approved list is here: http://www.saorview.ie/equipment/saorview-approved-product-listings/

Most of the boxes are the same thing with a different name attached. You shouldn't have to pay more than €60.
