A lot of people would have a nagging suspicion that the Texans are a well-balanced, competent team but not quite elite. They were fairly well fancied last season as well - although in their defence, injuries were a factor.

I think the loss of Cushing is huge. I think they will not be nearly the same force on D against the run without him which means bringing another player into the box if the Packers have success there which I think they will. When you have to bring another player into the box Rodgers will destroy you.

I had pinpointed this game against Seattle as our potential yearly bogey game, and was expecting to not be very confident in the build up to it.

However, looks like we already had our bogey game vs Arizona, so logic would mean this is a 100% guaranteed win. Phew! :o

Gonna give this my first try this week:

    Pittsburgh @ Tennessee
    Lions @ Eagles

Benson is out injured for 8week or the season. Not sure if they will have any success running the ball now.

    Cheers for that, Higgins.

Fantastic week of games coming up. How quickly are the weeks flying by mind? Week 6 already  Feels like only yesterday I was sitting down to watch the week 1 opener between the Giants and Cowboys!

Anyway, my Ravens against the Cowboys. The key here is the Dallas run game. Dallas have struggled to get the run going this season averaging 67 yards a game (29th in the league) whilst we've struggled to stop the run giving up 118 per game (20th in the league). If they get a run game going and control the clock as the Chiefs and Eagles have done against us then it will be very close. Don't let them establish a running game and we should have enough to beat them by a TD or so IMO. Considering they have the worst run-pass ratio in the league rushing the ball only 32% of times it will be interesting to see how this one goes. The key match up in this game for me has to be Nate Livings trying to contain Haloti Ngata. I like this comment from Ray Lewis with regards to the Dallas game plan :pac:
“They can look to do whatever they want to do but it ain’t going to be what they think it’s going to be,” Lewis said on Wednesday's conference call.

    Elsewhere I'm looking forward to Giants/49ers, Packers/Texans and Broncos/Chargers.

Patriots (-3.5) looks the best bet of this game week for me.

Can't see us beating the Texans at home and that is some turnaround in thinking from last year.

Just seem to be lacking on both sides of the ball. Our run game is going to be pretty non-existant now that Benson is out and our receivers aren't performing near what we expected them to do. Against Indy, we gave up some easy first downs and even when we bring pressure we're not getting the QB down. Our offensive line is letting Rodgers get hit all too often also.

Upside is, we turn this around and beat the Texans - we have two very winnable games next up and 5-3 makes the playoffs well do-able with four home games left. But our divisional games are looking harder every week with the rejuvenation of the Vikings and the Bears putting the pressure on. Who'd have had the Vikings 4-1 and Lions 1-3 at this stage?

I like the Colts to gain some momentum and get another win.

I also like Cleveland to pick up their first win of the season

Yet again I'm picking the Chiefs, I like their players and management, Week 5 their run game ripped apart the Ravens, they just lost due to multiple turnovers and ugly QB play.
They are 1-4 but ready to go on a streak

No more of that if Brady is in this week! Just handsome QB play.

i hope im wrong but i can see the packers getting a bit of a pasting on sunday. our secondary is muck, pass rush is coming from matthews only, when he was getting to luck last sunday we were 21-3 up and they made the adjustments at half time and we got whipped in the second half and matthews had no sack. on offence rodgers is missing jennings badly and finlay cant catch s**t, he has the most dropped catches in the league since last season and we have no run game. so it could be an emotional night.

    Nope,

Don't know why we aren't using Randall Cobb more. The guys comes up with some brilliant plays when he gets his hands on the ball. Use him like Welker is used for the Patriots. We seem to want to use him for trick plays, kick returns and to block.

yea it seems odd. they don't seem to use him on fast slat routes with a quick throw and this would help rodgers agianst getting sacked. it seems that they want the 10 to 15 yard big play all the time.

Nope, I watched it myself last night. Kenny Britt needs to learn how to hold onto the ball. Hasselback targeted him 11 times last night and Britt only managed to hold onto 4 of them . Pretty poor by any standard and a worry for Titan fans. Anyway as a neutral observer, I was pleased at the end to see the Titans win last night.

Also glad to see the Titans pick up the W. Injuries hurt the Steelers.

I have an abusive relationship with my tv.. . .

I stayed up for it, and with 5 minutes to go, when it looked like the steelers were gonna put themselves into position to win by a FG i was screaming at the tv, blaming it for wasting my night staying up!

But the titans one and myself and my tv have mended our relationship. .. until next week

Just watched the game, again Titans have issues making plays when it counts and have to punt.

Lucky to win imo, Britt needs to put glue on his gloves

What do people make of CJ2K after this week.

His two best performances against Texans & Steelers and he has struggled against weaker opposition. He still looks to be dancing about a bit but thought he looked pretty good overall.

Can we expect to see him kicking on from here with a nice matchup against the Bills next week.

I think the best thing about his performance the other night was that he was willing to take the 3 or 4 yard gain when it was available. In previous weeks he had been always dancing around, trying to get behind that big block to make a highlight play but was getting stuffed so often. Looks like he's getting back to basics which is exactly where he needs to go right now.

Good performance the other night now we'll see if he can keep it consistent next week.

He needs to cut down on some lateral movements and I still think he's lacking a bit of decisiveness in his decision making. That will come once his confidence grows, but he's definitively going in the right direction.

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 21,693 Mod ✭✭✭✭helimachoptor

Agree, when faced with a defender, instead of trying to run at an angle, he almost does a 90 degree turn and then starts again.

Needs to run in straight lines a bit more!:D

Can anyone explain to me why the Raiders have one of the best RB's in the game and a tryin to force this zone blocking down his throat and loosing as result!

Surely build the offense around your best weapon?

The Raiders are losing for lots of reasons other than just their zone blocking scheme. Also ask A. Foster and A. Morris seem to get on fine with zone blocking.

Also building your offense around DMC sounds great but he is so injury prone you are risking alot if (when, more likely) he goes down.

Good point man, I know the secondary is pathetic, Huff moving etc. Pass rush non-existent.

The injury prone yes, but before he was injured last season they had won 6 and were lost without him.

But the man blocking works for him it's his system, lots of stuff is/was wrong with the raiders, but the run gmae was the one good point, even Bush nearly put 1,000 yards last season.

If its not broke why fix it?

Didn't they lose a couple of O-line men in the offseason (satele, campbell) New guys could be more suited to zone scheme.

Carson palmer is washed up. They will be picking top 5 because of him.

Not overly man they lost afew but just replaced from within the squad didnt get any new linemen, I dont think.

I think Knapp came in and said this is how it is now.

    They lost D-line and secondary.

Ya Palmer is finished plays soft short passes, they have never replaced Rich Gannon 10 years later. Soooo frustrating.

It's fine, we're totally winning this one in a blowout... or more likely Vick will throw 4 ints and fumble twice and we'll lose it to a safety as time expires! :(

Predictions for this week then lads, mine are below:

    Lions @ Eagles
    Buccaneers
    Colts @ Jets
    Bengals @ Browns
    Raiders @ Falcons
    Rams @ Dolphins
    Cowboys @ Ravens
    Giants @ 49ers
    Bills @ Cardinals
    Patriots @ Seahawks
    Vikings @ Redskins
    Packers @ Texans
    Broncos @ Chargers

    Bills @ Cardinals
    Patriots @ Seahawks
    Vikings @ Redskins
    Packers @ Texans unfortunately :(
    Broncos @ Chargers

Biggest call there is the Chiefs to beat the Bucs. The Chiefs needed a change at QB, no matter who it was. Tampa aren't all that great and their secondary has taken another blow with Talib suspended.

Not likely. The Lions haven't caught an interception this season yet. A very poor secondary.

I think the winner will be the team that commits the fewest mistakes, ie Vick or the lions special teams:pac:
