Are the FA right in "punishing" Cole by not letting him be capt for his 100th cap?

Now, I know Cole isnt universally loved, but I really think the FA are showing themselves up for the petty pratts they are by publicy saying he wont be captain for his 100th cap.

They guy has reached a major milestone, always given his all for his country and just because he reacts because they publicy called him a liar, they react by saying "oh you wont be capt now, you naughty boy"
And after he is made to issue a grovelling apology

Serves them right if he did retire, but then he does have more loyalty then that.

Do you think the FA are right?
I agree he is very stupid for using twitter in the first place, but it does smack of pettyness by the FA in the extreme and no ones perfect

Firstly he is not stupid for using Twitter in the first place, he is stupid for misusing it.
Secondly I think it is quite a leniant punishment. I reckon they should drop him and leave him on 99 caps. That might teach him a lesson.

In this case I think the FA have overreacted.

Cole should be fined and leave it at that. If it was second time offense then fair enough.(dont think it was open for correction)

They are punishing themselves. He's a great LB and no other english LB is near him in terms of quality.

Too leniant, should have been dropped for the first game as an example to others.

What would be an appropriate punishment for calling the FA a bunch of twats?

And for lying in court, which is what the FA implied with their judgement on Terry last week ?

I think he's lucky to be getting his 100th cap.

Why does any FA have the right to say who is captain and who isnt?

It should be left up to the manager of the team to decide.

Not really - he's still playing after all, and I'm not sure he'd ever be captain material

    The punishment is fine tbh

He hasnt been dropped/fined anything like that, he just wont get to wear the captains armband on his 100th cap. Fair enough in my opinion.

Correct. I think if anyone on here called their boss(es) a bunch of twats, then their P45 would be waiting the next morning. Next time he might just count to 10 before typing.

The FA aren't his boss - I really don't know where this nouveau idea that football administrators are the equivalent of a Joe Soap PLC company boss has come from.

They are administrators, their role with the international team is little more than ensuring that the nets are put up and the pitch is marked for home games, and that flights and hotels are booked for away games.
And finally getting advice from professionals as to who to appoint as the actual boss, the manager, in this case Roy Hodgson who should have 100% control on who plays, who is captain etc.

Its a nominal sum, kinda like holiday money!

I think they still donate it to charity anyway, like they did in 2007 for 3 years

First off cole was right to call the FA twats because well....... they are clearly. However he was incredibly stupid to say that on twitter in the public domain and will deserve his fine for it.

As for the 100th cap thing, since when did the FA choose the captain. What the **** is hodgson for then. The FA are in danger of becoming the international equivalent of a rich club owner who wants to choose the team and interfere constantly.

I thought they were well rewarded at World Cups and European Championships

I think they would have got a good bonus if they had actually won something.
    FA are pretty safe there!

If he's never been captain, why would he be for his 100th cap? There's no place for sentimentality in a World Cup qualifier and if they want the captaincy to mean anything at all they shouldn't be assigning it for spurious reasons. And by 'they' I mean the manager.

I dont know, reaching 100 caps is a big deal IMO, someone with that kind of expierence should make a decent captain even if only for one game.

So the FA can come out publicly and call someone a liar (under oath) and he is not allowed react. A bit rich, no?

FA should stick with the organising of English Football and take their heads out of team selection. Why bother having a manager as a puppet?

I agree with Pickarooney that Cole shouldn't have been in the plans for captaincy anyway. But aside from that I also think this is a stupid move from the FA.

They are going way beyond their remit by issuing orders in relation to team matters. They are completely undermining the position of their manager. Of course Roy is too dim and subservient to do anything about it. I'd say the FA are delighted they with that situation.

This. I would have no problem with the punishment if it came from the manager. The FA pay their managers millions per year and then make the decisions for them. They interfere far too often and should keep their noses out of matters like these.

Will Stevie G not be getting his 100th cap in the same game as Cole

I don't think Cole is traditional captain material anyway.

And if you don't believe the captain role is important, then why would you care if he gets it?
