BMR help

The BMR really confuses me for some reason, I've been eating completely clean for nearly a month now and exercise now and then (don't get to gym often due to 6th year). I eat around 1,200 calories a day in 5/6 meals and am full by these.

My BMR is supposed to be around 1,600 apparently to Calorie Counter. Now this is the bit that confuses me, should I be eating 1,600 to maintain and then 1,100 to lose (-500) or is 1,600 the calories I should be eating in order to lose weight with barely any exercise?

I've been doing this for nearly a month and haven't loss a single pound or inch.

Your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) is the number of calories your body needs to burn each day just to survive. If you lay in bed all day and did nothing you would burn this number of calories.

As I understand it, you should NEVER eat under your BMR for a prolonged period of time.

Constantly eating under you BMR over a prolonged period will cause your metabolism to slow right down and your body will start to feed on itself. It will make up the calories required by using your lean tissue (muscle), which is not what you want.

Normally you multiply your BMR by an activity multiplier to get the number of calories you require daily to maintain your current weight. Then if your goal is to lose weight, you subtract the 500 calories from your maintance figure, not from your BMR.

So you might want to work out your BMR again, then adjust for your activity level and see where you are then.

Finally I know that 6th year can be hetic but just try and be as active as you can. Walk/cycle when you can instead of driving etc. Also try and schedule 30 minutes 3 or 4 times a week and do some type of bodyweight routine. Lots more ideas on Youtube.

Some of this young womans routines are not bad either. Form on some exercises is a bit shabby, but you will get the idea and she is in good shape (IMO), so she must be doing something right.

Also check out some of Marianne's videos for more ideas.

Continue eating clean, be as active as possible and recheck your BMR figure and good luck.
