Hey guys my brothers computer which is a an old dell family computer has started to get lines down the screen on the monitor. I seen it before on few computers and its usualy to do with the graphics card dieing im sure.

anyway the old card is a 7300 nvidia, I just received one off ebay today but when i switch the cards and try to boot up, its like something is short circuiting if im making sense. There power is going to the motherboard but the front light just flashes and there's no boot up.

Ive tried putting the old card back in and it boots fine just that it has the lines on the screen :)
Ive also powered it up with out either card and its fine.

Just when i use the card i received today it like hangs and just wont boot.

So im guessing the card i have is faulty yes?

    Thanks for the help
    John

Did you try another monitor with the original graphics card? Those lines are usually monitor related, I find.

Try the card you bought in another PC, it's the only way you'll figure out if its fudged.

Does the new card have any extra power connections? Some newer cards require a direct power connection to the PSU.

Is it seen in the BIOS?

sorry forgot to mention that its the exact same card just second hand but it was sold as being fully working.
Ill try it in my computer now.

I cant even get to the BIOS as it wont even power up with the replacement card in the slot.

tried the monitor works grand, trying the card now

Some cards need additional power so make sure that if the card has a molex/pciex power connector on it they are plugged in.
